Good Riverdale content also comes from early season interviews of the cast talking about the writing, with Betty's actress' thousand-yard stare speaking volumes.

I'd kinda like to see one where it turns out the comedian is just having an extended meltdown, and it's not funny or offensive but just gets increasingly uncomfortable to watch as it becomes clearer that this is just a man in deep crisis

Riverdale is never going to be as purely chaotic as the actual Archie comics—the dimension-hopping made even less sense in the comics—but it’s got the comics beat all to hell on creepy sex stuff.

Is Riverdale the good kind of stupid or the bad kind of stupid? By good stupid I mean early True Blood, where its over the top and camp but played very seriously. Or how Sabrina had an episode with a very serious and sensitive talk about sex and how you shouldn't be pushed into it too early, but if you feel ready, then you can go to the satanic sex orgy with your boyfriend. Bad stupid is something like Legends of Tomorrow where they meet a unicorn or some poo poo, and it's just cheesemonkey lol random nonsense

for context this is about non-binary wrestler Sonny Kiss who deserves tv time at the company Sonny works at more often than during pride. Her former tag partner is saying as much. Although for the record Sonny uses she/he and I believe doesn't like singular they.

Skwirl posted:The sampling argument has been going on since the 80's and I honestly have no idea what the answer is. Like Paper Planes and Straight to hell are both great songs. The post Bismuth made above has a good article explaining it, but fundamentally sampling comes down to whether the sampled piece constitutes what 'makes the original song what it is' (I'm sure there's a more concise word but brevity isn't my strong suit). At least, that's the precedent, and it's the case that has to be made one way or another if the argument ends up in court. This is why so many people have gotten away with sampling the Amen break, a six-second drum loop from a Winstons song, without paying a cent. And conversely - in a much better example - why Vanilla Ice opted to simply buy the rights to Under Pressure because it would be cheaper than being sued by Queen, who had him dead to rights: That bassline is instantly recognizable as Under Pressure, it is what makes the song unique, and no judge in the world would even need any music theory explained to them to know that. I don't know that there's an exact parallel to this precedent in tracing visual art; maybe tracing a character's facial expression or their pose (not an unfamiliar technique to comic artists) as opposed to wholesale ripping the entire outline and filling it in with a colour gradient. I don't know who this Pink Cat person is but they don't sound very stable.

I mean I think the problem is the Russians in their weird unneeded "BE SCARED OF RUSSIA BTW" tertiary plotline also never call it the USSR or any name for it that would be realistic. I mean I'm more bothered that they used a nazi death prison that apparently is a tourist attraction in the area because eastern europe fuckin loves nazis, but I guess that is also annoying

Yeah, I mean we say "China" all the time when referring to the PRC. We also sometimes say uhhhhh America instead of USA. Lets not get started about UK/Britain/England. That said ST isn't really concerned about being authentic to the period as much as being a pastiche of what "the 80s" as a vibe represents in the 21st century.
