I'm wondering why Dall-E Mini even knows what Grogu is, because as far as I can tell two of the three datasets it uses for training does not contain him, and the third seems to only contain images and captions from before 2014.

edit: they might have updated the model after they wrote their paper, I guess - trying to find out exactly what an AI has been trained on is a bit hard, especially when I'm not versed in all the terminology

I tried "grogu wearing a t-shirt" and it kept giving me "grogu on a t-shirt" except for the one that was seemingly "grogu jammed into a tshirt with himself on it"

In the NZpol Discord we've been playing around with Dall-E Mini, generating images of a politician by the name of Chlöe Swarbrick, a member of parliament for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. She's a good local figure to pick because the accent over her name won't confuse the AI for some other Chloe. Someone decided to be edgy and have it generate this.

I thought it was interesting that the AI coloured the swastika red, despite it being based on black and white photographs. Then I realised that in the top center image it had added a Green Party arm band to Adolf Hitler. That made me uncomfortable in a way that I certainly wasn't expecting at all.

It recognised political affiliation, it recognised what the arm band represented and it accounted for that.

Maybe.

https://www.midjourney.com/app/ should take you to your account's gallery which will have the prompts used to generate them (sans the --codes to alter weights and resolutions), handy for when you forget.

These 1800s looking diagram ones all share the same prompt, with a single bit changed.
Full prompt is:
"futuristic ________ design from 1895, mechandrites, steampunk, technical blueprints, line drawing, high detail --aspect 21:9"
Place what you want in that space.

Xbox

desktop PC

nuclear submarine

flying boat

VHS

cell phone

giant skull

Besides that I've been trying to get it to make a picture of a character I have in a PNP game my friends and I play. He's a young adult with one eye. Couldn't get it to understand "one eye" easily, tried "eye patch" which ended up getting a more blended eye-makeup thing more often than not. "pirate eyepatch" however is the key word to generate an eyepatch. Two things have made it abundantly clear when trying to generate good pictures of people: Multiple iterations and the "Light Upscale Redo" which upscales the size of the image without attempting to saturate it with detail. This avoids the problems of the AI trying to shove eyeballs or extra lips where they shouldn't be. Also --aspect 9:16 works well to tag on the end of your prompt to get a more portrait-style aspect that allows the AI to draw more of the character.

Prompts for these:
hyper realistic character concept of young adult medieval peasant, long hair, pirate eyepatch, fantasy, by WLOP 4K, mythical beast concept art, Rendered in Octane, cgsociety, highly detailed, Tony Sart, Craig Mullens, dynamic cinematic lighting, --aspect 9:16

If you were making a board game and needed art, could you just use one of these to generate it all? What is the cost structure or is it totally free at the moment to use the art for whatever you want?

DALL-E 2 currently specifies you can't use it for commercial purposes, though obviously that would be extremely easy to circumvent if you're careful

I imagine it would be pretty difficult to actually prove that a work was produced by Dall-E if someone did use it for commercial purposes.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if there was some proof or watermark or something built invisibly into the output or if every output was being stored with metadata so they could make a case if something got huge commercially or something.

It's just a weird thing to think about, given how striking and high quality this stuff has become.
