That's horrific, but I can understand why the driver contested the ticket. From a purely legal standpoint I can imagine his lawyer telling him to, in order to help with the defense of a future wrongful death suit. If the child died because he broke the law, that'd be evidence in such a suit, while if the ticket was contested and dismissed, then his legal defense can argue that actually he didn't break the law, and that'd serve as part of his defense.

The grotesque part is that he was only issued a ticket. Unless it was really just a tragic accident and the ticket was bullshit. Which we don't really know.

e. having read the article, there's a lot of blame to go around in these accidents - drivers for sure, but also the designs of the streets, lanes, signals, etc.; and of course, the loving cops.

We essentially made a pact as a country that driving a car is more important than not getting run over. It’s essentially the dril DUI tweet, but for all drivers.

besides that WRX doesn't have any Monster and/or Red Bull stickers or even the huge eff-off rear wing, it's about as tame as you can expect. the dadcore WRX. the New Balance of WRXes.

I remember when I wanted to buy a new car, I was strongly considering the Subaru BRZ. It didn't have an AWD model which I felt was kind of the point of a Subaru. Ended up going practical and got a Mazda 3 Hatch. Subaru eventually released an AWD model afterwards though!

We had an xA for a while and finally had to get rid of it when the kiddo got too big to fit in a car seat. it was just barely tolerable when she was a baby, but it mean that the passenger side seat in the front had to be pushed all the way up and even my wife, who is only 4'11, could barely fit in that space. Long trips weren't fun for her. I liked the car since it handled well, got good mileage and was easy to park, but the engine sucked and at highway speeds if there was any sort of incline we'd lose speed even with the pedal to the floor.

Plan on running our Outback into the ground and then want something smaller whenever the little one is old enough to go to college. Just maybe with a little more power.

I got 2007 Element for my wife like 5 years ago on the cheap, and that thing has really grown on me despite being ugly as sin.

It's pretty gutless (same engine as the Civic), but the utility is phenomenal. Being able to just straight up remove the rear seats is awesome, and it's a Honda so it'll run forever (she's already got 235k on it).

It would be nice if they actually brought it back with the resurgence of stuff like the Bronco and Blazer, but no such luck thus far.

Yeah the caveat is that it’d take a team of professionals weeks or months to untangle even the slightest step down.

Give me time, it has only been a couple months.

One of the people at the dealership did talk about his old WRX that had some extra loud exhaust mod. He said he'd gun it under overpasses and "it would sound like NASCAR", and I just laughed because the only thing I could think to say is that sounds loving terrible.

Agree. I realized much too late that it would be nice to have a vehicle with some space that I wouldn't have to worry about beating up. If either the Accord Crosstrek or Ridgeline were available with a stick shift I would probably be driving one of those right now.

His liver is actually fine, shockingly. His LFTs are a little elevated, but even when he was first hospitalized in 2020 it was for hyponatremia. They did an mri back then that the radiologist read as normal. Tbf I reread it and there’s a prominent chunk missing from his right frontal lobe but that’s why you always reread imaging.
