Is that Alien tv series still happening? Did production ever even begin?

Oh poo poo I didn't know a new movie was happening too! Cautiously optimistic about that.

I read a few issues of the recent-ish Marvel comics where the guy is having nightmares about an alien queen with boobs and hips and it wasn't very good, hopefully that's not where they're going lol

Wait this is actually going to be an R rated Alien movie and not like a Aliens are found on some planet by Starlord and Rocket or whatever right? :tinfoil:

This will always be canon to me and is the traditional hunting culture of the Predators that you defeat one of them in single combat they show ultimate respect to your kind by doing a victory dance based on one of your planet's songs instead of theirs. This happens right before they hand him the gun and fly off.

I have this movie on a list of movies we stream to friends that are good people but somehow missed out on all the rad 70s/80s/90s movies, I might actually edit this into the file to make an ultimate cut of Predator 2 since the dance footage being in the actual movie would make it a 10/10 instead of a 9/10.

It’s being directed by Fede Alvarez of don’t breathe and the evil dead remake fame. Ridley is producing it and liked his idea for it. I think it’s going straight to Hulu so I’m sure it’ll be R.

I do :colbert: I like seeing movies on the big screen with a huge surround sound system munching on a big honking bucket of delicious popcorn while surrounded by people who really get into the movie

Top Gun Maverick would have been nowhere near as engaging if I was relegated to watching it on, like, Hulu or some poo poo

I mean I’m going to take what I can get with Alien and Predator movies being on Hulu, but there’s something to be said for something being a theatrical “event”. When the entire multi-decade run of two franchises have been cinematic experiences and suddenly they get relegated to what feels like direct-to-TV, it loses something

Predator 1987 is like, the perfect riff on the action movies we saw in the early to mid 80s.

Dutch and his team are near-cartoon level actionmen, I mean it’s the gear, the wisecracks, their physical builds. And when they attack the guerrilla camp they lay a primo action-movie rear end-whipping on them, with all the classic types of poses and shots you’d expect.

Then things begin to change in the film, as they realize they are being hunted by something that’s a lot better at it than they are. The tables are totally turned, and as they get picked off one by one the actionmen are reduced to scared children. Kind of subverts the whole first half of the film.

I love it.

This is why I love the film, the beginning is just satire of what was so popular in the 80s (I also love Last Action Hero for this reason) and the back half is just a horror film. It's a great mix and wonderful commentary. My favorite part of the film is the middle section when the two genres are blurring and you start realizing that bullshit is afoot.

The trailer just looks like the last 20 minutes of Predator, as a whole film and I'm worried it's going to just be the same bullshit of people getting torn up by Predator the whole film. I'm curious what they're going to do to change up the formula with this one, if at all. I just saw that the director did 10 Cloverfield Lane and I really enjoyed that so I'm strangely optimistic now.

We've been pretty lucky as it is that he has even wanted to continue working this long. A lot of directors go into at least a semi-retirement by age 70, let alone 80. Not that every single one of his recent films has been great but he did just make one of my favorites of last year, The Last Duel. So he's clearly still got it.

Give me a Predator film after Alien: Covenant with David traveling to the Predator homeworld and experimenting on them making really hosed up Predators that just go around killing all of the Predator race. I want David vs Predator. Go for loving broke. Predator hunting people with the same boring gadgets we've seen for 6 films or whatever stopped being fun or interesting after the first film, I want absurdity.

Don't you tell me my business again.
I'm apparently in the minority but I'm not feeling that trailer for Prey at all and don't get the optimism.

I like the idea of a time shift and a period piece but most of what I saw looked pretty hokey.

I always thought that a more primitive setting like they're going for here would have worked really well for the Terminator series and think it CAN work with Predator but, man, that was a lot of cheese I smelled in that trailer.

Sending Arnold back to the old west, WW2 or something similar seemed like the logical extension of going further back into time to further prevent the future, which was at the heart of the loving franchise and the central element of the whole god damned story, but then they just did...whatever that was they did.

And I'm afraid that Prey is going to lean too hard into a lot of tropes, stereotypes and goofy poo poo - but not in a good way. Hopefully I'm wrong. I think if we're doing a period piece, that I'd rather see Perdator hunting a bunch of rich African safari big game trophy hunters and make them the hunted so that I can root for the alien.

Give me a Predator film after Covenant where David gets robot diarrhea and shits himself to death like the wet fart of a character he is.

e: then the Predators from P2 come by and go "Wow he's even lamer than the guy who got killed in New York" and then David's pants fall down and they all laugh at him even harder.

It's the clean digital cinematography, the noticeable CGI, and the modern accents in English. I don't think it looks bad at all in an objective sense, but it doesn't have enough verisimilitude for us to take it as seriously as the trailer seems to want us to. It's probably not fair to expect a direct-to-Hulu franchise sequel to go full-on Passion of the Christ, but that's more or less what you'd have to do if you want to really do justice to the concept they went with.
