I mean that's exactly what h323 was designed for, it's just better to ignore its existence in order to lock customer in your software silo.

I dunno, the support nightmare that can be created when doing interoperability is sometimes easier to just avoid. If you look at any interop solution, there's always a huge list of special features for each platform that don't play well together.

I mean, sure, it's great for straight up one-on-one video calls and Brady Bunch style group calls, but when you start getting into the special content sharing or whiteboarding or chat or even special layouts, you start running into problems, and things that don't work as expected from either native platform.

Integrated support for launching a web-based meeting client and joining the meeting without having to do any extra steps on a device that doesn't have a keyboard would be a good start. This is how Teams Rooms do WebEx and Zoom and it works well enough.

If you aren't big enough to mainly be using your meeting rooms to host internal meetings, or aren't the party dictating the meeting platform then you're probably better off with a USB device and having people plug their laptops in so they can use whatever client the meeting is being hosted in.

I just finished the second round of this supposed megabux presales role and I have yet to be asked a single technical question and I'm starting to think it's because they don't do cloud poo poo at all

edit: and I did ask but I'm suspecting they're bullshitting what they have going on a bit

The video meeting vendors need to stop having their pissing matches and realise that interop for conference rooms is going to have to be something they agree on. It doesn’t have to support all the features but a Zoom room should be able to join a Teams meeting and get video and shared content displayed.

Everyone but Teams can be really easy to join, as you have a Room#@webex/zoomcrc/goto thing to join them. What fucks things up is they can't monetize another vendor's product when joining, so they stack on an additional tier the host has to pay for. At least on Zoom and GoTo. GoTo is a quick "does host have feature, then it works" while Zoom requires some stupid workarounds.

Right now its Teams that extra sucks unless you spring for an interop service.

Blargh, had interview on that position today and rejected due to lack of AWS cert/hands-on experience. Oh well. Think I will check out the AWS Sysops track and may shoot for that as next goal now that Net+ is done, and HOPEFULLY get hands on experience somehow as well in the process.

If you use 1Password they have privacy.com integration now where they can generate one-time use or limited balance credit card numbers on the fly directly, it’s pretty slick.

And that. I use 1P and had not seen that feature.

All hail the queen!
I've literally spent the entire week so far untangling dependencies to try to unbork our requirements files while attempting to update things as necessary to work on an M1, since of course they're using ancient versions of everything and, while they have .in and .txt files, only half the previous devs were using them properly and keeping them in sync :negative:.

gently caress Apple, gently caress the M1, but especially gently caress lazy devs.

You know, I remember looking into what was required to integrate Cisco's older H.323/SIP VCS/Expressway infrastructure with on-prem Skype for Business a number of years ago.

That integration path makes the current one look like a cakewalk, so I guess it's getting better at least...

If you can get into a data integrity/GxP/Alcoa+ specialist role it’s pretty good. I find the work really engaging and the pay is good. (Went from $50k as a hydrologist to $81k in this role, low cost of living area.)
