I do the same kind of thing - my MOTYCs are 4 1/2 stars or higher, but a 4 1/2 star isn't really going to end up in my top ten this year. My HM cut off is 3 1/2.

I don't get super granular; hms are matches I really enjoyed watching and would recommend & motys are that but also matches I'd go rewatch (and sometimes I outright do - I watch aew live with friends on discord and often put a match on later when I can focus on it more than chatting) wmotys are matches that I actively regret watching

I honestly think this thread would make so much more sense for AEW biases if, rather than HM or MOTY alone you had to assign a star rating to that match and it might make people less trigger happy to nominate every best match on the card that week when it's at best a 3 and a half stars even to them.

May 29th HM MAO vs Toi Kojima - Such disrespect by MAO towards his rookie stablemate, it's delightful Saki Akai vs Maya Yukihi - Can't complain too much about this, it's two rad ladies hitting each other hard. I just wish Yukihi had more going for her in DDT than teaming with and fighting against Saki Yuji Hino vs Yukio Naya - Two slabs of beef running into each other at high speed. The best singles match Yukio Naya has ever had, on a bigger show I might have given this a MOTYC nod DDT What are you doing? June 1st MOTYC MAO (c) vs Masahiro Takanashi - DDT Universal Championship - These guys are smooth as hell, this was an absolute joy to watch HM Eruption (Yukio Sakaguchi, Saki Akai and Hideki Okatani) and Hiroshi Yamato vs Only We (Yuji Hino and Yukio Naya), Maya Yukihi and ASUKA - High energy, big hits, it's a DDT multiman tag. Can't go wrong with them

Great Rampage. HM: Hager vs Kingston HM: Statlander vs Velvet HM: United Empire vs FTR and Trent? Basically the perfect Rampage a bunch of really good matches some of which made me want to see other matches and a main event where I'm not sure it could get time on Dynamite but fit as a perfect Rampage main event.
