I'm just salty we didn't get another Street Fighter 6 character reveal. The Dragon's Dogma 10th anniversary website reveal was pretty deflating as well.

Also no one's made a mod that fundamentally fixes skyrim's gameplay all these years on so I doubt the community for starfield will make it a masterpiece if it comes out lovely. Once the mods hit it'll still suck but you'll have a dark mode UI and all the space orcs will have heaving tits.

all surface level poo poo, more gooderer graphics basically. Which fair, their games are pretty ugly by default. It was almost the end of page 2 of most popular mods before I saw "better females" and after that the frequency of creeper mods starts to ramp up.

The real way to play Skyrim these days is in VR with PLANCK and HIGGs and VRIK and all sorts of other poo poo using Wabbajack so you don't even have to do any work. I have completely forgotten what vanilla Skyrim is like to play.

Make no mistake, Skyrim is an ~adequate~ game, I'm sure Starfield will be too. Lots of people think Skyrim is the best game ever and never mod it, sure the same thing will be for Starfield. This does not change how much fun I can extract out of Bethesda's janky games though. Certainly not for everyone.

Should it help at all (different company and still a console exclusive at this time, so only tangentially related), Live A Live got built up with special announcements on its 26th anniversary, which turned out to be a celebratory concert. It wasn't until nearly two years later they announced the game's remake, and the game's team said they'd been working on it for 3 years - so it was definitely in progress already during the 26th anniversary. I just mean that it's still possible that Capcom is hammering away at a new Dragon's Dogma and either didn't want to announce it too soon before release or plain didn't have any footage they felt worth using yet.

it makes sense for individual mods to touch as little of the game as necessary so that they're as widely compatible as possible and to avoid forcing changes people don't actually want with the rest of the mod (see: Open Cities and Gategate). at the same time, 1000 mods that each change 0.01% of skyrim still won't turn it into a deep game and it will take longer to get them all working than you'll actually spend playing it, so I've come to appreciate the STALKER modding community's kitchen sink approach to mods where you just install one thing and go _{_{_{to an X ray engine crash dialog}}}

bethesda games are finally getting that same thing in a roundabout way via the wabbajack modlist installer at least. i installed a modlist from it and if you have nexus premium it'll just automatically download every mod and put em in the correct load order necessary.

if you don't have premium its uh, a lot more annoying since you need to approve every download manually.

This is what I've always found funny about the Bethesda games are only good with mods crowd. Not only do the vast majority of players not use mods, but the most popular mods are just graphics and UI tweaks.

No matter what you think of them personally, a lot of people like Bethesda games for what they are.
