Tubi is wild. It's a blend of genuine classics that have simply had their copyrights expire and garbage that is whatever falls below straight to video. Also weird, sex free edits of porn films. I've had a lot more fun looking through the catalogue and marvelling at some of the terrible poo poo on there than i have watching any of it.

I love the insane nonsense on that service. There’s this movie called prom ride thats really bad but it’s hilarious because they clearly didn’t have an ending so they just made up some poo poo and shot a really random scene that tied in nothing and ended the film with the classic gun shot cut to black.

Also there’s an extended scene of the villain forcing this girl to pee into a bucket and film it for some reason.

Tubi is basically the promise of what cable and streaming should have always been - an insanely big content library, half of it's garbage, but you can usually find something you want to see and just sit through a few ads. As opposed to Netflix or Hulu which have basically zero things made before 2000.

With streaming I really miss the super lovely action movies you could always catch on random channels on the weekend and Tubi really makes up for that.

Saw Live Wire on it last year.

Holy moly. That this exists is too kooky looking at it, anything can happen folks.

Good to see the Schwarzenegger talk a few pages back, and Jackie Chan talk, sure are a lot of cool movies. Also agreed on the props to Chow Yun-Fat of course.

The king of action (and every genre) if I need to pick would be Nic Cage. But that's cheating. Also Clint Eastwood, but those Leone westerns are like on par with Star Wars for insanely perfect movies, that's cheating too.

Popped on Where Eagles Dare recently, a friend was mentioning how it had one of the highest body counts at the time. I think Clint clears around 70 nazi kills. Good times.

I watched the Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham movie Wrath of Man and that movie was kind of a mess. It has this unnecessary complicated story structure where it jumps around in time and between characters. It does this odd thing where it introduces a mystery for Statham to find (who is the inside man on the armored car robberies) and then instead of figuring it out he's just straight up told. Also the movie comes off as weirdly mean where it introduces a bunch of side characters and then the bad guys just murder them.

Also I've started rewatching the Mission Impossible movies since they're all on Paramount Plus. Outside of the Usenet stuff the first movie actually comes off as kind of timeless while Mission Impossible 2 feels extremely dated from the style.

It was remarkable and sad how lacking in charisma, humor, style, and energy Wrath of Man is compared to early Ritchie. Still, The Gentlemen was such stupid rear end bullshit (basically an extended edgy Matthew McConaughey car/liquor commercial while a 53 year old over the hill Ritchie goes OY MATE YA EVER HEARD OF WEED MARIJUANAS???) that I'm not sure which Late Stage Ritchie type of movie is less painful. Probably Wrath cuz I take bland over obnoxious.

The Gentlemen should have just been about Colin Farrell and his crew which was the only fun part of the movie.

Wrath of Man needed the action amped up to another level, like they needed to lean into Statham's talents even more than they did. Give us some Chad Stahleski type action scenes with Statham and make the more of the focus rather than the stupid Guy Ritchie plot, but I guess Ritchie can't help but be himself.

Yeah, I think Wrath of Man might be, on balance, one of the most disappointing movies I've watched. It's not the worst, not by a long stretch, but it seems so perfect on paper and it's so dull in execution.

Not just that, but his plan when the heist happens is just 'be there'. It's an odd film that things concealing things from the audience is the same as writing a mystery. IT'd be like if the ending of Oceans 11 was just them finding the money in a trunk and driving off.

Come to think it, I have a feeling it was a different film in the scripting phase. I have a weird feeling that, in the original script, we spent a lot less time with him. Then Statham signed on to play him and so his character ends up front and centre for much more of the film.

I dunno. It's kinda refreshing that he wasn't a member of the government or a cop. This sort of story is usually reserved for copaganda films. But yeah, I thought it was a servicable mid of a film. I think they should have had more stylish action since they had Statham on board. Didn't have to be balls-to-the-wall constant action but what was there should have been spectacular to make up for the kinda meh story.

Maybe? Maybe not? I really enjoyed it, as well, though I would be hard-pressed to say why. Statham is .. well, himself. But the supporting characters (and especially Statham's flunkies who are just so loving tired of killing everyone and anyone that might be tangentially involved) really did it for me.

I went into the movie with zero expectations and enjoyed it. I think we may share the same disease :smith:

All this RRR talk as a Hindi speaker made me want to check it out, put it on my watchlist. I know whenever I go back to India everyone is in love with Southern movies, meanwhile Bollywood is just remakes or ripoffs of lovely Hollywood movies. There is a lot of good action from Tamil/Telugu cinema although they have really long run time.

As for what I have seen, I went on a Liam Neeson binge.

-Memory just absolute middle of the road poo poo, you will forget about it instantly but I like Guy Pearce + Liam so it was watcheable for me. I know this is a remake of a movie, I can tell the plot is interesting but they might have lost some aspects of the story when Americanizing it from a Belgian movie so you never really get into the plot too much and the action is meh.
-Blacklight really really bad. I usually don't get ever get the urge to turn off a Liam Neeson movie but this was definitely close, only watched it because I was with my father and we made funny of it.
-The Ice Road, this is basically Fast & Furious Alaska version. It has lovely production so alot of the cgi looks bad but it definitely has a good pace when it starts going. It doesn't take itself seriously so it's enjoyable despite being very stupid.
- The Grey, Liam Neeson's plane crashes in the northern wilderness him and his oil rig co workers have to survive vs a pack of hungry wolves. It has a setting that could be good but a lot this movie is just them talking and then one guy gets picked away by a wolf. Not much action.
-Seraphim Falls, similar to Memory, was watchable despite being meh due to the cast. Liam Neeson + Pierce Brosnan is awesome, any action fan would appreciate. Although they are wasted here. I enjoy westerns so I didn't mind it too much.

I actually did watch one good movie though. The Fable, a good Japanese action movie. If you like Japanese action movies from guys like Tak Sakaguchi you will enjoy the action sequences in this although there are not many but the ones that are there are very very good. It's not Netflix and it has a sequel? So I am in. I love these Japanese action movies where the MC is literally a superhero minus no superpowers or flying. HIGHLY recommended this if you enjoy Tak's stuff or don't mind whackier plots from Japanese movies. Going to checkout the sequel this weekend.

The Grey was totally mismarketed as an action flick when it’s really just a bleak sad tough guy movie. I enjoyed it a lot at the time, Neeson doing overwrought monologues is usually the best part of his movies and that’s basically all of The Grey

Sounds good! I haven't seen a new Japanese movie in a while. Did love those early 2000s gems with Tak like Versus and Azumi. Based on a manga I see, the premise is right up my alley. Like GTO or something.
