How the heck is your bow breaking three times? Are you using a poo poo/un-upgraded bow? Or the wrong arrows? Or is your bow skill really low because you don't use arrows any other time? I don't think I've ever had a bow break on me.

You should have a fully upgraded Draugr Fang by the time you fight Moder. Obsidian/Fire/Poison arrows should all work just fine against her.

Ravenfood

What bow could you possibly be using so much it breaks against Moder? I don't think I've ever had a bow break in a boss fight, let alone against Moder. Upgrading a draugr fang bow should help but isnt necessary.

In retrospect making the first real boss so vulnerable to arrows and resistant to melee might have been a mistake. Because yeah, hitting things in the face is usually the best idea for anything and every so often someone wanders in complaining that the boss was hard or boring and almost invariably they didn't try hitting it in the face hard enough.

Also I really want a blackmetal spear. Make it look like the iron-tier spear but with a black head and I'd be happy. I love the look of it but never use it because at iron tier a spear is mostly useless and then as soon as you get to the mountains you can make a wolf spear.

The mobs previewed so far have been rabbits and things that fly so they may have worked around that.

Mostly what I’m wondering is how WE get around and I hope the answer is Cool Vertical Movement.

I’ve been spoiled by the EpicLoot mod. I got double jump and slow fall on a set of armor and it made me into a gosh dang super hero.

Hearth and Home was the building update. I don’t think they’ve got any more building specific updates in the queue.

New patch is out :toot:

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/892970/view/6128850732739087108

quote:

Patch 0.209.8
This patch features a couple of new things, but most importantly it fixes some issues regarding Steam Cloud saves. You as a player should not need to do anything, and the saves should be moved automatically. However, for this patch we do advise people to make backups of your saves, just in case.

The bug with Steam Cloud saves would cause players to lose progress if they were playing on multiple accounts on the same PC. To solve this, we have done some changes to how the game saves:

From now on cloud saves are saved under the Steam userdata folder. Local save files for dedicated servers and multi account machines will be stored in a new “_local” folder next to the old save file location, and the old save file location will still be there but nothing new will be saved there. You will be able to see which characters and worlds are located on the Cloud and which ones are locally stored or not yet moved out of the old folders. When starting a local save with Cloud saves enabled in Steam, the file will be moved to the Steam Cloud and a local backup will be kept. Dedicated servers will still only use the local folder though, as this can be started outside of your steam login.

If you have any issues or questions regarding this change, please see our FAQ on the topic, and don't hesitate to contact us on Discord.

Since it’s almost Midsummer, we’ve also added some festive new content for you!

Patch Notes

New Content:
* Maypole now enabled in the building menu
* Flower crowns!
* New banner colours (Orange, white, yellow and purple)

Fixes & Improvements:
* Unity updated to version 2020.3.33 (should reduce crashes!)
* Tamed animals now follow the player into Haldor’s forcefield
* Tweaks to Yagluth’s hair so it no longer flies around in the air
* Console command exclusivefullscreen is now toggleable
* Mods can now set an isModded flag to let players and our support know the game is modded
* Inventory keyboard UI hint fixed
* Console server command 'recall’ added (teleports other players to your position)

Steam Cloud:
* Cloud save files will now be stored in Steam/[YourIDNumber]/892970 instead of AppData
* Local files will now be stored in “worlds_local” and “characters_local” under AppData and no longer be synced to cloud to avoid sync conflicts and dataloss when using multiple accounts on the same machine, and when using dedicated servers.
* Files still in the old file structure will be moved to the Steam Cloud or new local folder when used and a backup will be kept
* Worlds’ save files can now be renamed and will load correctly
* Large worlds (300mb or bigger) should now sync correctly
* Maximum Cloud storage for Valheim has increased greatly, thanks Valve!

That was the url I was supposed to share, thanks. Problem seems to be that they did a major overhaul of the way characters and worlds are being saved and they bungled that. When it happens, It’s not like there’s a world reset going on, it starts a completely new seed for your trouble.

Once you delete the new seed, it’s smooth sailing again.

It is absolutely infuriating that deathsquitos can 1 shot 2 star wolves. While working on our Plains fortress theres just wolf corpses everywhere. We keep pumping food to breed more. We are also introducing lox now and maybe that will help offset losses. Also, i just found out tamed wolves wont attack event wolves.

Keep some in a little house (or just inside yours??) If the rest die you still have a breedable pair or whatever.

And yeah, no tamed animal will fight with a wild version of themself. I am not sure what a wild Lox will do if you ride up next to them on your own tamed Lox. They'll want to attack you, but not your Lox. Not sure what takes precedence. The only time I was close to a wild one, ALL the Lox were stomping some skeletons to death.

The second best part of Epic Loot is the thorns effect. With good enough armor the squitos don't do much to you and they die when they hit you.

Would be nice if they added stuff that made day-to-day base operations in "conquered" areas easier. Like a bonfire upgrade that annihilates deathsquitos, or anti-damp cloaks for the swamp, etc. Should also be a way to just eradicate spawns around your base, this is especially bad in the mountains where the drakes (which are never even a threat) will just constantly break your castle roofs over and over lol

e: Could be a good use for trophies, turn in biome trophies to the trader to buy a bug zapper!

Any 'player base' structure will suppress spawns in a set radius, so if you're patient enough you can create fairly large clear zones. The radius is equal to the build radius of a workbench which is a convenient way to measure where to put the structures. I usually use torches either in trees or on stone pedastals.

The downside is that the structures are still destructable by mobs wandering in so you have to protect them somehow or just build the suppression so far out that nothing spawns.

This is easiest on islands and peninsulas.

Yeah one of the fundamental issues i have is the way the entire world gets more difficult after each boss kill, including base attacks. On its surface i like the idea as it works with the story, that Valheim itself is fighting you harder as you progress. But what sucks is spending a bunch of time making a nice rolling farmland in the meadows on the starter continent and then having to surround it with ditches and walls because late game mobs just blow through fences.

Build a stone wall with a 1m gap followed by roofs and wooden walls above it, like this:

On the inside, use hearths/campfires and wooden walls to channel a ring of smoke in to that 1m gap, like so:

The deathsquitos will fly in to the gap instead of going over the wall and die to smoke

Making you happy for a buck since 199X
I wandered too close to the Plains (still in iron tier right now, haven't whacked Bonemass yet) and came out of menu organizing just in time to see a Deathsquito in my face. It would 100% have one shotted me in bronze gear, but I somehow managed to hit it with the dagger I was holding, which one shotted it. That was lucky as gently caress. I probably couldn't do that again if you gave me ten tries.

I loving hate Deathsquitos and think they have no business in this game, but that scenario is exactly the experience they're intended to give, I think.

They're a good gate to Plains resources because you can't just grab what you need and run away because they'll catch you. They act similarly to cold damage in the mountains. By the time you're supposed to be at the Plains, you should be able to take at least one hit, more if you block, and ideally you should be parrying or timing your attack right and take no damage. They still suck if you get into a mixed fight, though, and they could probably be reduced in numbers in general. At least you get great arrows that don't require feathers, I guess.
