I also hate it when leftists complain about works being too close to being interpreted as pro-fascist and therefore shouldn't be made at all. The corollary to that line of thinking is that we shouldn't make or enjoy any art under a bourgeois framework because all commercial art is inherently fascist. Which is a valid argument but it's also one that calls into question the whole point of being a video essayist. If art is fascist and all you're doing is analyzing art then you're directly engaging with fascism. The problem with interpretation is also why Attack on Titan needed an addenda chapter in the first place. Without making it explicit that Eren doomed the world to repeating the cycles of history he tried to eradicate, the final chapters feel oddly sympathetic to Eren. And the fan reaction to the addendum chapter was hatred, because they didn't like the idea of Mikasa moving on from Eren and marrying somebody else. AoT is always going to be burdened with a fanbase that suffers from protagonist syndrome, and are incapable of recognizing that historical protagonists are more often than not history's greatest monsters.
