Cowcaster posted:why are conservatives so absolutely convinced that medical professionals will force people to become a different gender? Im not sure they are. I’m pretty convinced at this point that most conservative beliefs are just post-hoc rationalizations to justify things they want to do anyways and that they know this on some level. In this case they want to block trans people from transitioning by criminalizing the HRT and puberty blockers while using the law to intimidate doctors.

Part of that Sartre quote is that they take pleasure in the knowledge that anyone they disagree with will try in earnest to refute whatever insane bullshit they spout, and that part of the pleasure for them is being beyond reason and beyond language while their hated enemies voluntarily cleave to those things and believe in them. It’s partially about reveling in the perceived weakness of their enemies, like the dumb kid in class who tries to rules-lawyer the teacher on a technicality. They don’t believe any of it, and the point is to force a performance from the rest of us that shows we believe in things and are therefore weaker and deserving of extermination. Does that What Is A Woman guy have a definition of what a woman is? He does not.

You're all really giving them too much credit, 99% of conservative thought can be explained with them believing porn is real life. Incels think straight porn portrays a realistic depiction of straight sex and relationships, great replacement stuff relies on thinking the world functions on cuckold porn logic, and ishida thinks force fem is real life. This stuff may have originated as a a justification but is now perpetuated by how conservatives consume pornography.

It’s funny because I believe one of the Transformers comic series was pretty queer, up to and including a trans character. But I get the feeling they weren’t twerking and emphasizing their robogenitals.

Calling trans kids brave and beautiful is actually pressuring them into transitioning, because transitioning has no social downsides and is not difficult at all

I wonder how much of this is rooted in the old reactionary idea that healthcare workers being nice and telling kids that they're brave encourages malingering and all healthcare (for proles and women especially) should be about acting like an emotionally distant father while administering electric shocks or foul tasting medicine. Massive amounts of transphobia too of course, but that itself gets tied up with the idea that being nice and affirming people makes them weak and nice/feminine/weak/bad are all the same thing.

I think it's one of those "You have to already be a shithead to get the punchline" comics. Like, i think the punchline is supposed to be "oh my god isn't it terrifying that they would even consider transitioning this girl" combined with his ongoing "Where's my cookie for being such a good ally" jealousy.

I have a big effortpost about these strategies here, which I conveniently wrote with NRA examples. Generally, regulated industry (and their trade associations especially) do not like granting concessionary regulation when it can set precedent. The NRA isn't asking for or inviting the proposed regulations from the senate- they're fighting it tooth and nail, which is a pretty good sign Rall is also obfuscating how gun control actually happens; that this isn't "Politicians", it's specific politicians, with specific affiliations (and overwhelmingly, it's Republicans) blocking broader reform. Traits we normally use to indicate someone is female have shown up on both genders of transformers. Yes, even breasts. I'm convinced he lost his own joke right in the middle of drawing this. The first two panels are clearly "Magatron is evil and bad according to the evil and bad people!" He's called Magatron, he's got the stars and stripes painted on him, and he is quite literally a gun ("you'll never confiscate me!" is the closest thing to an actual joke he's managed to make in this weekly dump), while the Autobots are the real bad guys because they transition instead of transform, and want to be mean to the leader of a group that's still called the Decepticons for some reason. The second half suddenly put "Magatron" in the position of the weak and whiny liberals, a "joke" he constantly uses to say "look at this ridiculous whining used to smear true patriotic terfs!", which is always followed by all the other weak and whiny liberals being unfairly angry at the person who caused it. Always. Always, always. Shorter, Ishida's brainworms ran in opposite directions where the unfairly maligned caricature the evil media uses to demonize the poor poor conservatives suddenly becomes the character the weak and whiny liberals are supposed to feel sympathy for and outrage on behalf of, probably because he couldn't be bothered to think about his default joke for .0000001 seconds.
