Tbf to A-train, Homelander has a particularly nasty gripe with him and takes extra glee in threatening and bullying him (gee I wonder why). A-train's wealth, status, and safety relies entirely on staying on Homelander's good side. This puts him in the position of being the biggest bootlicker because he started out with an incredible disadvantage. He could just retire at any time tho.

Yea, I don't think it's racial with Homelander, I think he just sees a supe that managed to gently caress up so bad that he can't use his powers anymore, so he's worse than useless. If he was just a regular human he might be worth mild disdain, but being one of the "chosen people" and losing it all? That's unforgivable in Homelander's viewpoint.

It might be a small critique, but I really don't like the writing around how judgy part of the team gets about Butcher and Hughie taking the temp-V. They're all on the verge of bearing the brunt of arguably the most powerful existential threat humanity has ever known, which would of course be Homelander finally snapping and nuking the world back into the dark ages, and right when they finally come across this tool that could give them at least sort of a fighting chance, half the team is like "whoa whoa stop you guys, you're better than that" and it doesn't seem believable because that kind of morality judgement is, for one, a luxury they really can't afford at the moment and two, it's a stupid and nonsensical message in the first place. The messaging comes across almost as short sighted and shallow as one of those "if U kill a killer then there are just as many killers in the world when U R done so U R just as bad" messaging tropes. Because no, that's not how that works. If you kill a person that was about to kill a thousand people, then you've saved a thousand innocent lives for the cost of one selfish and evil one so no, you are not in fact "just as bad as them." We have watched Homelander callously torture and murder countless people for the pettiest of reasons. There are arguably no actions the Boys could take that would make them "worse" than Homelander even if they wanted to be. Then again they're not directly being judgemental about the guys wanting to kill Homelander, but rather in them temporarily juicing themselves to do it, so it's not the same as the "if you kill a killer..." thing, but it feels like it's in the same league of "committing any perceived arbitrary immorality is a cost too great, even for the tradeoff of making the world an infinitely better place forever" ridiculous messaging that gets pushed so often by other media. Of course, correct me if I'm wrong here but that's how it came across. Also I suppose this really stands out to me because of how stellar the presentation has been with everything else, but it's still worth mentioning I think. MM lost his entire family due to V & Vought, and is losing his daughter to a loser who worships homelander. Starlight had her entire life decided for her because she took it unwillingly as an infant. We saw her singing in in pageants. She got Glammed up by her stage mom and had to sing sex songs, (ironically by Britney Spears who had been forced into the same situation after the Mickey Mouse club). That world ties into a rage just as powerful as her rage of being manipulated by Homelander to pretend to love him and forgive her rapist. Star wants Hughie to be normal, not super. Two days before she got mad at him, her good hearted superhero ex was slaughtered by a more powerful supe. She thinks she can defend him by keeping him off the table. It might not be logical, but people aren’t 100% logical. Super powers & the super powerful are deeply tied to the trauma of the people who hate temporary V. Powerlessness and revenge motivate the people who take it. (Kimmy hates it because of her backstory too, and Frenchie hates it because Kimmy does.)

Much like the Bechdel test, "show don't tell" is a reductive and overused heuristic that reduces critique to pattern matching, and also misses the whole point of what Chekov was getting at in the first place - it's about evocative imagery and has nothing to do with expository dialogue. I think if you're disabled yea he hates you because you're what he deems weak, but I think if you're black or queer but strong he doesnt give a poo poo but if you start making it a thing and it gets in the way of Homelander's plans for The Seven or his peace and quiet then yeah I'm sure he hates you for that. If you start caring about those around you he also hates that because everyone else is ultimately just an ant. For Homelander The Seven is like a pantheon of gods and should only be those he deems worthy to surround him, a Supe there purely for their ability and strength alone, so what he does hate is someone he deems as weak or unworthy being there purely to push Vought's agenda, for example the blind ninja guy in the first or second season he deafens. So A-Train being in The Seven isn't an issue at the start because A-Train is one of the strongest Supes in the country, but he is now disgusted with A-Train who is now essentially depowered because he knows he's only being kept there so Vought can keep their numbers up with the black community. He didn't have any issue with Supersonic being on the team because he's Hispanic, because presumably Supersonic is strong, though he did enjoy making that a thing (like serving tacos) because he's an rear end in a top hat and loves to see the reaction. I don't think hiding his race factors into the reason he likes Black Noir, it's because Black Noir firstly is still strong as hell and deserves to be on The Seven, but mostly it's because unlike the rest of them he doesn't cause any problems and just listens and obeys whatever Homelander asks of him. Ya know I thought it a bit regressive how folks were just A-OK with shows going back to a weekly release schedule but seeing how it’s improved the quality of discourse I’m all for it now. However seeing all the people who seem to have trouble paying attention to what’s literally in front of their faces for a single episode have me thinking maybe Amazon could be doing more for us. Perhaps a two to five minute break every ten to fifteen minutes would help a lot of the folks with absolutely zero attention span pay even better attention. Folks could stretch their legs, use the bathroom, get a snack, or check their phones without the show distracting em. Hell Amazon could even inform us about new projects or even sell blocks of the break time to advertisers to help fund even better effects on the show so we can finally see Homelander being an invincible super monster. It’s basically a win win for everyone!

When the dumb poo poo ceases to be a source of wtf-ery entertainment, or at least gets bad enough that I can't find the surrounding less egregious dumb poo poo entertaining, I just dip out of those discussions or places.
