lol someone dumped the fight on /r/kickboxing. i never know what the rules are and it was a bit hard to follow without any english commentary. seemed like no clinch/throws allowed? decent fight.

spoilers just in case: tenshin's southpaw jab is pretty sick. seemed like it was giving takeru a lot of trouble, but he was tough as hell and waded in to land some wild shots of his own. classic speed and precision vs wild power and toughness

at the end they were crying and bowing and hugging each other. what a bunch of nice boys

I'm convinced at this point that Lauzon and Cerrone and Dana are in cahoots to get them their show money a few times and then send them off into the wild blue yonder

If you make weight you get paid right? So they both made weight twice and both got paid twice yeah?

Now Dana is saying he's not interested in making the fight actually happen..

I don't believe you get show money until you step into the cage unless the promoter feels like paying it out. That's literally what show money is - you show up to fight. If the fight is called off before you step in, well, then you didn't show.

The contract isn't 10k to weigh in and 10k to win. It's 10k to show and 10k to win.

But do they even keep getting injured? Cowboy's thing was food poisoning/vertigo/drunkness idk and as far as I can tell from Tapology he's never pulled out of a fight before.

Lauzon hosed up his knee tying his shoelaces or something and as far as I can tell has pulled out of a fight once before.

Now I know Tapology isn't gonna show certain cancellations if they were far enough out, so maybe there's more, but somehow these guys have actually managed to show up most of the time.

In comparison while looking in to this I found out that Khabib Nurmagomedov has pulled out of 2 different fights just against Cowboy.

Yeah, can't dump/throw in Kickboxing like you can in Muay Thai. You can't throw shots while clinched in Kickboxing but you can in MT, e.g. knees to the body. You also can't catch kicks in Kickboxing but can in Muay Thai. Those are the 3 big ones I remember off the top of my dome.

Oh and this is not really a stylistic difference but in Kickboxing, you will see gigantic loving heavyweights that I don't think I've seen in MT. It's crazy watching these big hulking slabs of man-meat move with the swiftness they do.

UFC Fight Pass Z-League Round-Up
Week of 6/24

Xtreme Fight Night 381 - Friday 8 PM ET
River Spirit Casino Resort, Tulsa, OK
4-Man Heavyweight Kickboxing Tournament
Bella Mir (2-0) vs. Jessica Link (Debut) (Fly)

- The American kickboxing scene sucks, but you gotta take what you can get when it’s nearly impossible to watch Japanese kickboxing live and Glory only runs like 3 times a year. XFN runs kickboxing in the cage, but also has MMA fights on the show. This show seems to be almost all MMA.
- The main feature of the show is a sloppy big boys one-night 4-man kickboxing tournament with participants Haze Wilson (3-3 KB, 2-0 MMA), Darion Abbey (2-1 KB, 3-3 MMA, 1-0 BK), Terrance “Jefe” Hodges (3-1 KB, 2-7 MMA, 0-1 Box, 0-1 MT), and “Super” Demoreo Dennis (3-4 KB, 7-5 MMA). Super Demoreo won this same format tournament back at XFN 379 in April. He is a cool guy, and I’m rooting for him again.
- On the MMA side, the fighters are mostly early career prospects, but the notable one is the XFN debut of “Lady” Bella Mir, Frank Mir’s daughter. Mir is 2-0 with both of her fights in late 2020 in iKon. Her opponent Jessica Link is making her pro MMA debut, but her “similar combat sports” record is 1-3 amateur MMA, 1-1 in bare knuckle boxing, and 0-1 in bare knuckle MMA. Her most recent fight was a bare knuckle boxing win in April at BKFC 23.
https://twitter.com/Boco_T/status/1091741617600512001
UWC 35 - Friday 8 PM ET
Auditorio Municipal Tijuana, Tijuana, B.C.
Akbarh Arreola (24-11-1) vs. Walter Luna (12-5) (175lb)

- The main event of this show is a Bantamweight title fight where the challenger Juan “The Pony” Campos is 9-12 with 4 losses in a row and 2-9 since 2014. The defending champion Adrian Luna Martinetti is 9-1 coming off of a gogoplata win in February to win the title.
- The notable fight on the card is at 175 lbs, with former UFC fighter Akbarh “El Caballero” Arreola having his first fight since 2019. Arreola’s first fight was in 2002. His opponent Walter “Showtime” Luna has been fighting sporadically since 2010 and has fought 6 times since August, with a 3-3 record.

JCK MMA: 2022 Week 8 - Saturday 7 AM ET
Haikou, Hainan, China

- Last week I finally found a fight to promote for this organization and it got canceled. This week we are back to having a completely unremarkable card. One of the fights is 8-8 vs. 1-10.

Ares FC 7 - Saturday 2 PM ET
Le Dome de Paris - Palais des Sports, Paris, France
Abdoul Abdouraguimov (14-1) vs. Karl Amoussou (27-9-2) (Welter Title)
Akhmed Salamov (4-1) vs. Jose Galindo (5-0) (Middle Title)
William Gomis (9-2) vs. Renan Barão (34-9) (Feather)
Shamil Gaziev (7-0) vs. Kirill Kornilov (13-0-1) (Heavy)

- Upgrading this show from Z-League to B-League, this is the premier MMA show that’s on Fight Pass this weekend.
- Abdoul “Lazy King” Abdouraguimov looks to defend his welterweight title for the first time after winning it in 2 minutes with an inverted triangle back over Godofredo Pepey in February. Lazy King continues his rise towards a spot in a major promotion against another longtime big show veteran, “Psycho” Karl Amoussou. Karl fought to a 5-4 record in Bellator from 2011 to 2014, and he also fought at Dream 15. He’s been around since 2006 and is probably past his best days but still managed to get 3 wins in 2021 in European regional promotions. Lazy King’s last four wins have been by inverted triangle, RNC, arm triangle, and brabo. What other type of choke is there left for him to win by to keep this streak going?
- Some less experienced fighters challenge for the vacant middleweight title in the co-main event. Akhmed Salamov is coming off of a March victory by kneebar over Robert “Robzilla” Valentin and battles the undefeated Jose “El Toro” Galindo from Peru. Galindo has taken a long time to build his 5-0 resume, as he fought once each in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2020. His most recent fight was a TKO over Lucas “Everest” Chiumiento at light heavyweight.
- Ares is the fourth promotion to attempt to book Renan Barão since he left the UFC in 2019 on a five fight losing streak. His only win since 2015 is a decision victory over Phillipe Nover. His possible opponent this time is William “The Jaguar” Gomis, who hasn’t lost since he fought twice in one night in November 2016. He is coming off of a UAE Warriors win in March. Ultimately, we shall see if a Renan Barão regional fight gets canceled once again.
- A little lower, we have two undefeated heavyweight prospects facing off. Shamil Gaziev is 6’3” and has racked up his 7 wins in the last 18 months, all by stoppage. Kirill Kornilov is 6’5” and started his career 0-3 in Glory Kickboxing before switching to MMA and finding a better home there. He’s won his last two fights by decision but does have 9 TKOs.

Cage Warriors 140 - Saturday 2:30 PM ET
SSE Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Rhys McKee (11-4-1) vs. Justin Burlinson (7-1) (Welter Title)
Caolan Loughran (5-0) vs. Festus Ahorlu (5-0) (Bantam)
Federico Pasquali (7-0) vs. Harry Hardwick (8-3) (Feather)

- After going 0-2 in the UFC, Rhys “Skeletor” McKee continues his campaign in Cage Warriors after notching a win over Aleksi Mäntykivi back in October. His opponent in this fight for the vacant welterweight title is Justin Burlinson, who also came back to Cage Warriors in April after losing his Contender Series fight to Yohan Lainesse in November.
- Somebody’s 5-0 has got to go in the co-main event as Caolan “The Don” Loughran takes on Festus Ahorlu. The Don just won in April over Bakhtyaar Oryakhail while Festus is making his Cage Warriors debut after winning the FightStar Championship bantamweight title back in December.
- Undefeated Italian Federico Pasquali looks to prove this time to Cage Warriors that he can make 145 after he missed weight in his CW debut back in April. He is facing a British fighter named Harry “Houdini” Hardwick, though I hardly think I have to specify that he’s British when I say that his name is “Harry Hardwick.” Houdini went 1-1 in Bellator a few years back but is currently on a 3-fight win streak.

Fury FC 65 - Sunday 5:30 PM ET
Alario Center, New Orleans, LA
Joshua Weems (9-2) vs. Mo Miller (7-1) (Bantam Title)
Themba Gorimbo (9-3) vs. Julio Rodrigues (13-6) (Welter)
Carlos Lozoya (7-2) vs. Nate Smith (6-3) (Fly)
Cleveland McLean (16-9) vs. Eric Shelton (15-7) (Fly)

- A better card than you’d expect for what I’ve seen recently out of Sunday MMA shows.
- Joshua “Wide Open” Weems has fought regular MMA, bare knuckle MMA, bare knuckle boxing, and regular boxing. In October he lost to Fernie Garcia on The Contender Series but bounced back with a win in B2 in March. “Mo Show” Mo Miller won a decision on the Contender Series in September, didn’t get a contract, then lost his fight in Fury in November when Dana White and crew were Lookin’ For a Fight at the show. He won in Fury in February and now both guys are trying to build back up towards the big show by winning Fury’s bantamweight title.
- Themba “The Answer” Gorimbo is a South African fighter who built a good record fighting in SA but then lost in Abu Dhabi in October. He’s now fighting in New Orleans against 37-year-old Julio “Julião” Rodrigues. Julião fought entirely in Brazil from 2011-2021, but his camp Chute Boxe Diego Lima was able to get him booked in New Orleans in March at Bayou FC and he won there so now he returns to fight for Fury FC.
- Carlos Lozoya has been fighting since 2014 and has wins over real fighters with the names “Duran Flaget” and “Shin to Chin Tycen Lynn.” He took 3 years off after losing in 2016 and has not lost since he came back in 2019. His opponent is Nate “The Savage” Smith, who is on a 3-fight losing streak that started when he lost on the Contender Series in September 2020.
- Finally, we have Cleveland “Baby Beast Mode” McLean, who has been fighting since 2014, is on a 4-fight streak, and fights out of “Fusion X-Cel Performance.” He faces Eric “Showtime” Shelton, who lost to Tim Elliott on TUF 24 and then went 2-3 in the UFC. Both of these guys’ most recent victories are Fury FC wins over Jacob “Lil Animal” Silva.
