I wish people who edit gifs would include the normal version as well as the slowed-down version. I often don't even want to see the slowed version until I know what it looks like normal. It's like a preview, like, hey this is neat -- stick around for it in slow motion.

I feel this way about modern nature documentaries, particularly the BBC stuff. It's like they feel absolutely everything MUST be in slo-mo in them. It's cool as hell to see a cheetah tear-assing around in slo-mo, but I'd also like to see it going ham at regular speed to.

Everyone talks about us becoming fatties in chairs with weak legs like in WALL-E but the real next step in evolution is seeing everything in slow motion because it looks cool and we have no more natural predators.

Sometimes it's hard to gauge how cool a thing is in slow motion unless I've seen how it looks normal first.

Sometimes it's because the poo poo they're showing off is super rare and/or hard to film, so they use slow-mo to stretch out the like 30 seconds of usable footage they got from a 3 month filming expedition. In one of those behind the scenes bits they do in the last ten minutes now they showed a guy who camped out in a very lovely little shelter in the rainforest for three weeks trying to get footage of this bird's mating display, which lasted like 20 seconds. He couldn't even pitch a decent tent because then the bird wouldn't have come close.

authwiggidywack posted:Is this a legal move in... whatever martial art that is? I believe that's Karate, and yeah, I don't see anything illegal about it. It appears to be a solid kick delivered cleanly. Maybe a bit unconventional, probably wouldn't land against a taller opponent but seems legit. Also the fact that both judges and referee award the point as soon as contact is made, seem to make it all kosher.
