I can't speak to technical analysis or anything but the big players are desperately trying to pump the price back up to keep everything afloat. A lot of these DeFi protocols and other more explicit ponzis only appear to work when the line is going up, and when they fail there are cascading effects like the thing that motivated that Solend fiasco. We're seeing a lot more stablecoins being printed and there are rumors of big players bailing out various things.

I'm not sure what the threshold is for things to really start collapsing but BTC being significantly under 20k for any long duration will cause a lot more chaos

Okay you’re clearly trying to talk yourself into putting money on crypto. Possibly you already have money in there and you’re trying to justify it to yourself

Don’t do it. There are so many scams that it’s not worth the risk. You would have better luck at the casino. Try day trading actual penny stocks if you really need to, you’ll still lose but then at least you won’t have to deal with the tax stuff. Anything other than bitcoin

Apologies since this has probably been asked before in this thread, but are there still true believers in the crypto world who actually think that these are genuine currency alternatives instead of just investment vehicles built on bullshit? If so, how in the actual hell do they justify that stance? Because if there's at least one thing a stable, everyday currency probably shouldn't have is these absolute wild value swings.

I still just don't get it. I look at it and see just nothing but people hawking their respective ponzi schemes so that they're not left holding the bag.

I’m ignorant but the way I understand, they still actually are currencies. It’s a bad currency, but still the best currency for illegal activities, like blackmail or drugs or whatnot. I think that’s the only thing that makes crypto not a full ponzy scheme: it is useful, if only for criminal activity

The answer to any question starting with "are there still true believers in the crypto world who actually think..." will always be yes. Crypto is anything you wish it to be.

Justification? You can justify anything with some level of ignorance of one or more of: How finance/currency works, how the technology works, what non-crypto solutions actually exist and why things currently work they way they do.

Money is an extremely complex field, technology is an extremely complex field, and very few people fully understand both.

Blockchain has always felt like the ultimate thing in need of an actual purpose. I have yet to see a justification for blockchain, just people claiming "[Thing that absolutely does not need blockchain] will work better on blockchain," and then providing an explanation that at best, just highlights how absolutely useless it is.

I forget if it was here or the buttcoin thread but to quote the lecture on crypto that got posted yesterday, the only use blockchain has is as a filter. If someone says "we can put X on blockchain" they don't know anything about X and their opinions can be safely ignored.

On another forum I visit (it's about college sports, but they have an off-topic section with a crypto thread) and there are definitely still true believers out there. I think it boils down to not having to be tied to traditional banks. Lots of talk of decentralization, lack of central control, etc. They're mostly just trying to talk themselves into how it's still useful, when in reality it's just an easy way to get scammed.

There's some money in it, but it's very thin and the market is highly illiquid; major players getting out can crash the price hundreds or thousands of dollars in minutes. Some of it is shell game, some of it is ponzie, some of it is greater fool scamming, some of it is just true believers. Divabot, author of Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain and Libra Shrugged, has some great analysis on this kind of thing on his website, https://davidgerard.co.uk/blockchain/

A lot of this "money" is either "Well, he traded this many stablecoins for a slurp juice, then that slurp juice for a Mangosteen NFT, so the NFT is worth that many stable coins, which we've all decided to pretend are equivalent to dollars in value" with no, or comparably little, money entering into the economy. I think at one point there were several billion Terra in existence that was backed up by like, maybe a couple hundred million in reserves?
