10,363 snaps and not a playoff win to show for it

I'm actually hoping for this.

It will be pretty interesting to see how he does. We don’t have a lot of data on how a yearslong break from the game affects QB skills. In his case, I certainly hope it is a strong negative effect. OTOH that would bode ill for Kap, in case things didn’t look plenty bleak for him already.

Le’Veon sat out one year and went from perennial all-pro to washed and quickly out of the league. But there’s really no comparison between the hell an RBs body goes through and a QB (other than Cam) so probably can’t conclude anything from that. It would be extremely funny though if he just sucks rear end now.

Michael Vick had some drop in skill but was helped by having Andy Reid for his coach. I don’t know anything about Stefanski. Well I just learned I’m a year older than him :corsair:

He also ended up with a coach who hated his style of play and wanted Frank Gore style just run the ball in the called hole no matter what. Still doesn't explain his absolute disappearing act with the Chiefs though, I figured Reid could make good use out of him.

Vick looked really awful that first year with the Eagles, and even heading into his second season on the team they went with Kolb as starter until he got hurt. Vick could still show flashes of his old self, but he did do more of the off the field stuff too, like actually watching game film.

The main difference is that the Eagles weren't expecting much from Vick and it was a flyer for them. The Browns just gave up everything and need Watson to be good right now.

Vick barely played in 2009. He had 13 passing attempts. That’s not enough to say he looked like anything, good or bad.

He was in camp, and played in the preseason. I live near Philly and it was all anyone at my job at the time would talk about.

He spent that year in Miami so that is the equivalent of 5 nfl seasons

I hope Watson sucks whenever he plays. He should never play another down, but it would be fitting for him to be absolutely terrible.

just ban him from the playoffs for the rest of his career, that'd do

the browns have to use their backup qb in the playoffs

Making him reapply for reinstatement + optionality for more suspensions if there's more accusations seems pretty serious

This is honestly incredibly smart because it leaves them flexibility when more accusations drop and, more importantly PR wise, when the remaining civil trials actually get to a court room.

Yeah if they really honestly suspend him for a season then that means by the time he could theoretically play again there will definitely be either 1) more accusations or 2) more clarity on existing ones in terms of public evidence

I feel like they would have been fools not to expect something like this and were maybe counting on Baker to hang out for a while before he rebelled, but at the same time they're the Browns so I don't know.

considering the revelation that the texans themselves tried to help watson cover things up I really wish they'd do something in a way that doesn't explicitly reward them by making the browns send a high draft pick over

suspend watson for a year? ok then also strip the pick

The Browns are just going to spin tires for a year with Brissett or MAYBE trade for a Garappolo or Minshew if things get desperate.

Way too many bridges burned with Baker.
