One of my favorite 'videogame things' has long been AI helpers. I love summoner classes. I love multiplayer bots. I love Palicos and Spirit Ashes and Halo marines. I don't know why I sat on DDDA for 10 years because the pawn system is extremely my jam. Unfortunately, I don't think the game plays to its own strengths. It makes you wait too long to get to the really cool monsters. The Elder Scrolls-tier plot/characters/quests did nothing for me, I just want to explore dungeons, find treasure and have awesome fights with my team. I wish the game was just the DLC area x10.

It's noteworthy how well this PS360 ARPG holds up. When DDDA is good, it's extremely good. I'm glad that the sequel is being made in a post-Elden Ring world, I hope Capcom cribs some things from it.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor (Rebirth, all characters). Really fun game that I never would have played if it wasn’t for Game Club. It makes me want to check out Osamu Tezuka’s work which I’m not very familiar with, but the complete, barely-comprehensible insanity of this game’s plot when you don’t know who all these characters are had it’s own charm.

Hard as hell in some parts too, or at least it was for me, that boss rush right before the final fight was rough.

It's really good when it's good yeah. The big monsters are all generally a lot more fun than the small ones, they're too beefy and you have too little AoE (except for mages) to get that really sick ARPG cutting down hordes of enemies gameplay. But they're still easy unless you're asleep at the wheel. Kind of a weird in-between, and it ends up making the escort mission that's like 5 minutes into the game feel like it takes 100 years. I bought it for my Switch and I'm gonna replay it but I am dreading that loving cart mission again.

Otoh maybe this time I'll play something besides warrior with assassin feats to make grappling easier and do more damage, lol.

A good game until you get further in and learn the ugly truth... it was made by the guys who made Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Has one of the worst last levels in video game history, nearly ruining the entire game which was fun for the first 6 or so levels. Could have easily been an 8 otherwise.

Triangle Strategy - good game, fairly slow start had me losing steam halfway through, but the final 1/3 or so gets epic. I went with saving the roselle ending and the last fight highlighted all the cool poo poo in the battle system really well.

Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. Great game. I like how it provided closure for the new cast of characters, with Athena proving herself in her first solo trial and Apollo taking on Phoenix in court and winning and ultimately setting up his own law office in his home country. Rayfa was also a fun sidekick character, having her tagging along reminded me of Franziska von Karma doing the same in AA3. A lot of AA3 parallels and callbacks in this one, really, which is cool because I think 3 is still my favorite though this one comes pretty close. The divination seances were also a neat new gameplay twist, I didn't like them as much as Athena's mood matrix introduced in the last game but they were still a cool take on cross-examination.

Kind of sad to be done with Phoenix Wright unless the AA7 on that Capcom leak turns out to be genuine, though I'll still do the DLC at some point and I've got Great Ace Attorney as well. Although the ending of this game seemed like a perfect ending for all its characters, I also thought the same thing about the ending of AA3 and I still thought they did a pretty good job of bringing Phoenix back so we'll see where they take it from here, if they do.
