I think the sticking point here is that dadchat is a pre-2016 relic thread with a large body of institutional lore. It doesn’t mesh well with the current moderation, but it has also been dead for 6 years, so the practical outcome here is to simply archive this thread, and create a new chat thread with clearer expectations.

So after cartoon-style blowing up my PC by doing a spit take that covered half my computer room it did eventually come back online. Which is nice because the replacement case I bought for building its successor turns out to be one of those 400-piece super-customisable chassis cases and I was not remotely prepared to finish that with a hangover. And to make matters worse a critical machine at work decided to turn itself off exactly 1 year after the last time it did that, so I had to make the two hour round trip to press a power button.
