I've generally stayed away from this thread and gambling discussion for my own reasons, but it sounds like the boards are down a remarkable poster and that's a real shame. Condolences to all that knew him.

Oh poo poo was Jase that infamous pool shark on here who traveled around with his uncle? RI loving P, man. Those threads inspired some rip roaring degenerate sprees I went on down in New Orleans.

Indeed he was one and the same. His uncle taught him to hustle pool at a young age. You would not win a game of pool against him unless he wanted you to.

Would you be my new best friends?

I think I remember this right: he told a great story about hustling a couple of dudes, one of their girlfriends mocking them into demanding another game and then them beating Jase who couldn't believe his bad luck, only for his uncle to laughingly explain to him that HE was the one who got hustled? I hope I remember that right because it was one of my favorites, and I loved that Jase was completely open about talking about the times he was on the other end of a hustle.

Being a pool hustler is genuinely one of the absolute coolest things you can possibly be. I wish I had the hand/eye coordination and the lack of bad gamblers in my family to do it. Is there any archive of Jase's stories?

No and he never wanted to be. He loved pool and it would have made it become a job if he went pro. He had thought about doing it.

Yeah that's accurate. I also fondly remember the story of jase sizing up this guy in a pool hall only to have his uncle tell him to stay the gently caress away from him as that guy was the best pool player in the USA.

first card I'm betting without the Big Man. RIP still brother. my bets:

volkanovski moneyline @ -210, $20 to win $29.52
volkanovski by ko/tko/dq @ +350, $10 to win $45
lawler moneyline @ -120, $10 to win $18.33
lawler by ko/tko/dq @ +380, $10 to win $48
also got a Dan Le Betard Profit Boost™ parlay bet on O'Malley, Volkanovski, Adesanya, $20 to win $46.55

the Lawler bets are my pour-outs for Jase. I feel pretty good about Robbie winning, though. Not confident it'll be by KO/TKO/DQ. I feel really good about Volk finally beating Holloway clean. I think he knocks him out. As much as I love Max, I think he's taken too much over the years. He's old in fight years.

Are the odds on Strickland vs Pereira kind of bullshit? The man has 6 MMA fights, having it as a coinflip doesn't make sense to me.

I’m in Vegas this weekend. Where will be the best place to watch 276 besides the event itself? I might park up in a sportsbook for the duration.

Also gonna place some bets in honor of Jase. Any lines look particularly good?

The theory is that Pereira is a literal elite kickboxer and Strickland doesn't wrestle often (he's the top middleweight who is least likely to shoot) and defends strikes by moving backward on a straight line.

Looks like I’m probably going to the sportsbook at the Paris, myself, since my friend knows someone who works at one of the clubs there. I don’t know the best way to do things in NY, though.

Looks like NY decided against running its own books, but they licensed the big betting apps like Fanduel, MGM, etc. I dunno what your best options are there (I got an overseas sportsbook account 15 years ago to place tiny wagers on fights and never bothered to switch after it was made legal in Oregon), but a lot of them will be running promos before a PPV.

If that is the case, I’ll just go somewhere else nearby. Ceaser’s was completely filled with WSOP tables a few days ago, but that should be clear. We’re heading down to the strip a couple hours early so nbd if I’ve gotta look around.

Whatever you end up doing, do not sign up without some sort of new user promotion. All of these companies are operating on razor thin margins because they are dumping tons of money into new user acquisition and you're almost guaranteed to make some sort of money on your first bet.
