Will you stop going crazy in there?
The prequels are being rehabilitated because there's a generation of people who grew up with them as their Star Wars and now those people are old enough to post long and detailed internet rants about it.

This is why high-budget franchises will never die and capitalism must be destroyed.

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'til I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies 'til the end of time

The prequels are being rehabilitated because the Disney sequels make the prequels look almost reasonable. :v: The prequels were a complete mess, but they still had the excessive enthusiasm of their creator poured into them. He hosed it up, but Lucas had a story that he wanted to bring to life. Big difference from a late-stage capitalism content mill.

The real reason is because Disney isn't gonna pay 4 billion dollars for a six movie franchise and just give up on recouping their investment on half the content they bought. They need to get people excited about the star wars original streaming series that will take place inbetween each of the prequel movies!

It's fine, two things can be garbage in different ways without making one look better than it is. Dumb terribly written & acted garbage is not made better by cynical tickle your nostalgia centre so you buy more consumer tat garbage. Like, it's not as if George was trying to make some bold arthouse film, he didn't seem to be able to decide WHAT he was making, a kids film or something more about the politics and you end up with is a boring mess.

Where as Episode 7 (only sequel I saw, the rest weren't even worth pirating) was just plain boring. Doesn't make the previous mess better, maybe more charming but being more charming than something absent of charm isn't really notable.

Shouldn't have had a public holiday today America, so we could talk about number instead of uninteresting films

The cities in the SW aren't going to run out of water (yet). First will be major cuts to agriculture, which will result in major dust storms developing and spiking respiratory ailments including valley fever. Then the cities will start to lose water.

another great article about the water situation in arizona. one of the biggest consumers of groundwater in the state is actually saudi arabia, who buys land to grow feed for saudi cattle, pumps out absolutely massive amounts of water from non-replenishable aquifers to grow alfalfa and then moves on when the aquifers are drained and collapsed

i guess you're also supposed to feel sympathy with the family they use to humanize the situation, but...

The article takes the tone that people who got there 20 years ago are hapless victims of a world changing in ways no one could have foreseen. gently caress that. No they aren't. Agitprop is intentional & deliberate. Eisenstein, Brecht, Ken Loach. George Lucas is not a socialist, George Lucas is a multi-billionaire Hillary booster, he's not exactly a likely candidate for being a Marxist-Leninist. poo poo, google Star Wars agitprop & the first result I got was someone trying to claim The Last Jedi was Maoist agitprop. When a movie is as empty as the prequel trilogy you can stare into the void & see anything you want if you squint your eyes hard enough.
