I honestly think the Skaven have four of the top 10 hardest starts. Throt, Skrolk and Snikch are all surrounded by same-race LLs that can be expected to ally and murder them, while Queek is going to be right in the middle of Skarbrand, Imrik, Wurrzag, and possibly Grimgor (assuming he doesn't slide east)... with his only ally being Tretch, which is worse than nothing. I guess you can maybe hope to make nice with Khalida?

On the other hand, Ikit will probably remain as the single easiest start in the game. Tretch also looks pretty quiet, at least until the Chaos Dwarves show up

Also, Naggarond is looking real empty. I realize part of that is just luck of the draw in what factions have been revealed, but even if we assume there's Malakith, his mom, the Twilight sisters, and Khatep we're still just left with a bunch of elves and one miserable undead priest. My bet is that Cylostra will shift north to backfill for Alith Anar, and to get a wildcard Dwarf or even a Vampire Count.

Sure would be a shame if Wurrzag and all the savage orks, like, died on their trip to Lustria and were never mentioned again. Either that or were changed from 'Zulus but green' to like literal neanderthals (but green).

-Be’lakor will lead a Warriors faction, with a unique mechanic where he can corrupt human lords into daemon princes, as well as the individual gods’ daemonic manifestations. He’ll start in Albion. All WoC factions will get a new “souls” resource for temporary buffs and daemon of reinforcements.

-Volkmar will have a campaign involving sealing away the Books of Nagash and a Zeal mechanic to earn buffs.
-Grombrindal will be taking the fight directly to the Dark Elves on Naggarond.
-Ghorst is going to start near Nagashizzar. Not a lot of info.
-Sigvald will get Slaanesh’s seduction mechanics.
-Kholek starts north of the Mountains of Mourn. He wants to build or find some big monument, not a lot of info otherwise.
-Vlad and Isabella will still be one faction. You’ll chose one to be the lord and the other will become a hero.

The hints we're getting about the WoC rework there sound great. I can see why they put Be'lakor there instead of DoC as most people assumed. The part about "widest selection of chaos demons" implies the other lords get access to certain ones, which is nice to see confirmed.

I fucking hate puzzles.
Honestly Queek starting in spitting distance of khorne isn't as dire as Settra or Wurrzag. Queek can quick tech to city level 3 and break out enough cheap stormvermin and warcrime units to hold his own, basically the same strategy he'd use against his old vortex start against all the sauruses known to man.

Which brings up an interesting issue. Queek, Skrolk, and Trench don't get any fun gimmicks like the latter skaven lords got. I'd be interested if they got something to play with in their campaigns.

Sigvald getting seduction and also Slaanesh daemons for his army sounds like it's going to be pretty fun. Even if it's only a small selection of them, having the Chaos Warriors as a solid line for the daemons to flow around will make for some fun play I think.

They probably don't want to figure out an entire tech tree for Demons, since that's all built into Daniel right now. Putting Bel'lakor into WoC, when they're remaking them anyway, seems like a simpler solution.

We can hope; Sylvania isn't big enough for two different LLs.

I suspect the idea was that she's too cool of a character not to fit in somewhere, and the Coast had empty spots. I doubt she'll see any significant makeover until and unless the Coast at-large gets one, or maybe until Dogs of War adds in some better candidate units for crossover. It wouldn't work with any of the current humans.

All of this sounds amazing.

Be'lakor being able to corrupt lords and turn them into Daemon Princes, his start in Albion, the hints we're getting of WoC (including that it doesn't seem to be a horde anymore)... God drat that's gonna be a fun start.

The power couple get the love they deserve! Vlad/Izzy is such a good change holy poo poo. Ghorst moved out somewhere near Nagashizzar (maybe the marshes of madness but who knows?), Manny might be starting somewhere down near Lahmia or somewhere in the Southlands AND he AND Volkmar are chasing down the books of nagash alongside the TKs?! WHAT

Sigvald remains WoC but with a Slaanesh flair: he gets unit seduction, seductive influence, and even some Slaanesh daemons? (BTW, between him and Be'lakor it really sounds like WoC are getting access to at least some daemon units.) Can you loving imagine a front line of Chosen backed up by Heartseekers and Daemonettes? :allears: PLUS he starts somewhere in the northwest, so he gets to gently caress with Malekith.

Speaking of loving with Malekith: Grombrindal starts in loving Naggaroth?! THE WAR OF THE BEARD NEVER ENDED. That's going to be such a loving fun start.

Tretch to Crookback makes sense and might give Grimgor a speed bump to run over. Queek is gonna get poo poo on by Skarbrand, though. Snikch and Throt are both doomed (Throt maybe slightly less so since Hell Pit's garrison is scary.)

God there's so much goodness in this article. I'm glad CA is taking the time to really go all out on this. They could have just copied and pasted, but they're actually putting in effort.

I think throt could end up being a powerhouse start especially if kislev starts divided as it does in the ROC campaign.

Its only appropriate that Belakor steals archaons thunder but I reckon the everchosen will get a big juicy overhaul from the sounds of things. Sarthorael would work well as a legendary lord or a legendary hero that you unlock while playing as WOC. Stick him behind a quest battle or something.

WOC with deamon support sounds like a lot of fun, excited to see if WOC can access Chaos Dwarf stuff too.

I'm thinking Mannfred gets moved to the Marshes of Madness. As that'll put him near the Southlands

Ghorst is the one where there aren't a lot of spots east of Sylvannia that aren't Chaos Dwarf territory or already taken by another LL

I do like that they're getting spicer with the positions now and giving us a better variety of starts

If they keep Isabella's hero buffs, the change to have Vlad as a legendary hero will make her vampire stack even better. Vlad brings the siege attacker and can be the ground unit while Isabella and the vamp squad on the flying horses can do their thing without having to hide some skeletons or something in the corner.

I wonder how Belakors corruption works mechanically and how it works with LLs or Immortal lords. I suspect it is something where you beat a lord and several turns later get the option to recruit a new Daemon Prince lord, while your normal lords can be recruited anytime, somewhat like Bloodline Kiss-recruited lords.

Does it keep their levels when they come over? Do they die permanently as far as the original faction goes even with immortality? Presumably it doesn't work with LLs, which has some interesting interaction with the inevitable swarm of Mixu lords.

Excited to see it though!

E: also loving the sound of all the other changes. Moving Mannfredd, Ghorst, and Grombindal are all great, plus a Southlands Empire start with new mechanics owns too. And Vlad/Isabella is such a good change that has been begging to happen ever since they created legendary heroes.

Contrarian take; part of me dislikes this, actually. I rather liked being able to pick up a secondary legendary lord for Empire/Dorf/Vampires given I never picked Volkmar or Grom otherwise, although the additional starts are neat. A non-zero part of me is also absolutely dreading the two immovable objects of early game D/H elves and dwarves clashing and just shooting each other, forever.

helman's spot was always extremely ignorable and a pain to wander up to deal with if he did become a bother so I'm glad he's loving off to somewhere neat
