In case you didn't know that the BSS Discord is still alive, a bunch of us spent yesterday afternoon unpacking Funky Winkerbean for a new arrival, specifically why it'd be stashed in a folder titled "Newspaper Comics Hall of Shame". Just unspooling all those headache-inducing storylines off the tops of our heads was a good time, and the repeated responses of "you have to be making this poo poo up" was deeply gratifying. but that piece of our brains could've been dedicated to learning a trade. And yeah, I know "professional snarker" is a job description now, but come on...

And we didn't even get to Les Moore's Oscar for Best Actress.

I kind of want to join the discord now just to scroll back through this. I don't know too much about early Funky beyond the cancer arc and I think the "a veteran, teams up with an middle eastern man for something, punches him after the man saves his life" arc that I half-remember.

In terms of wishful thinking, this is especially rich, especially since Hank Green's latest vlogbrothers video is "Now that COVID ate my sense of smell, I wonder if I can eat an olive without gagging?"

And speaking of pestilence, here's Crankshaft and his significant other getting sweaty at the drive-in!

1) Try not to think about it.
2) Realize that by trying way too hard, that's the only thing you can think about now.
3) This is your life now. Thinking about Ed Crankshaft's geriatric libido, and wondering if he has an erectile disfunction that can only be solved by an Industrial Light and Magic crew.

The main point of interest right now is that we were gifted with a non-thread individual who literally knew nothing about the existence of Funky Winkerbean (or the other usual US-oriented hatereads) until maybe two weeks ago, and it's just a reminder of what a true joy it is to unpack this poo poo for someone hearing about it for the first time.

It also really says something about the Funkyverse that they had to create a one-off character to have someone who can make an optimistic comment about the present.

e: Oh, Stuck Funky says that's supposed to be Les Moore's literary agent Ann Apple. And sadly, that points to one specific candidate for 'old friend".
