At the same time, it’s also kind-of a part of our culture wars, with, pathetic in my candid opinion, attempts to rebrand Latvia as a Northern European country etcetera. I wish the country would actually invest even half the effort it spends on avoiding talking about these problems on actually fixing them.

Found an Uzbeki restaurant in Warsaw today, purely by chance. They serve plov which I wanted to try but how close can it be to the real thing? Isn’t it made in communal pots, sort of like a a proper biryani is?

This is how it's made at a restaurant in Toshkent:  And an uzbek airlines party   This may or may not be how they make it in your restaurant, maybe you can just ask them. But also people do just cook it in pots all the time so that's pretty authentic as well.

Seems like they started deporting people to Azerbaijan last year already. I don't believe that German government could be so far sighted that they could see in June 2021 that Nordic Stream II wouldn't be completed and in full action now. In any case, that is Scheisse.

Tja, Nenonen. Das haste jetzt davon. As for the deportations, I had to dig a bit, and it turns out that all of these cases were decided in Bavaria. That is completely unsurprising. Bavaria wanted to deport people to Afghanistan while the Taliban were encircling Kabul iirc, so absolutely no surprises there. The simple (and likely correct) answer is that Bavarian politicians like being cruel.
