Pun olympics at Fingerpori today:

The literal translation would be "being fished over is threatening to fish tree stumps".

Ylikalastus = overfishing like in English, but also "fishing over something".
Kalakanta = fish population, but it's a compound word that breaks down into kala + kanta. Kalakanto = fish tree stump, breaking down into kala + kanto.

Now, due to the funny way Finnish grammar works, the plural partitive case for both kanta and kanto is the same, "kantoja". Funnily enough, the singular partitive case isn't the same: kantaa vs kantoa.

It's creepy as hell and doesn't even make sense. Why would you want to own half a leg paint factory when you knew that the very thing that was making leg paint valuable was going away?

KO as in knockout? What games of Scrabble allow one to play abbreviations? Or am I missing something?

Having just caught up on Brenda Starr, I don't think "making sense" was high on the list of priorities. The list seems to have been to draw good girl art peppered with screwball jokes. Most popular strip in the world for a minute there.

It's actually not according to the official US Scrabble dictionary.

I'm seeing some sources saying it's a valid word in UK Scrabble, though, so who knows.

For a long time, Brenda Starr was about a supposed reporter who never wrote an article but did go on a lot of holidays, but for a while now I'm pretty sure it's been someone's recollections of their dreams. Things just happen for no reason and then abruptly, something else happens instead. The bad guy of the last arc? Well, he's Brenda's friend now, I guess. And the new bad guy's got a plan that sort of ties into the old bad guy's plan but not really in any way that makes sense.

"Ko" as in "a Maori digging stick", apparently. I had to look that up though - I know what the valid two-letter words are, not what they mean.
