I was thinking during tonight's show that they should have Chris Hardwick do a post-Jeopardy show where B list celebs can talk about what new gently caress ups Mayim Bialik did.

Jeopardy might be too small on its own but a weekly show about game show screwups could work. Every other daytime tv genre had one at some point. Hell, get Austin to host it.

Willdo. The Chase from a few weeks ago owned because you get to see what happens when ever fails to get to the final round, which I always wondered about.

It makes a kind of fascinating problem since the tiebreaker is just straight luck/reflexes anytime I've seen it, so if you think that you know the category you should probably just bet. But how awful would you feel betting a dollar and losing on the final when you could have just forced a tie.

I hope if I get my shot I end up in a scenario like that so I can do the shocking thing and bet everything, sticking to my vow that I'd do that on any physics or astronomy category regardless of the standings.

Not spoiling the outcome but two things came to mind:

Didn't Holmes NOT die in The Final Problem? Yes, it was mostly a retcon but there was no body. You also don't die from falling usually but by a bad landing as the BBC series noted.

Also, Schroeder?! as Sally's Babu James? He'd commit necrophila if given the chance and not with a woman

i wish i could like the chase but even when you edit 75% of the filler/cringe out of it the questions are still really dumb and the game is structured such that nothing matters until the final chase anyways, which is itself a game that the contestants have basically no say in. just feels way way too asymmetrical to me.

100% agreed. It’s way too filler and pomp and circumstance and whatever.

The final chase is at least ok though, if they just did a 30 min version of that it would be more ok.

I really like The Chase. I feel like the questions are mostly different than the usual Jeopardy fare, and I also like the faster pace. I think they get through way more questions. I wish Sara would banter a little less and especially read questions faster, but I don't mind the intros or the trash-talking.

The biggest issue to me is that the producers force the contestants to say the stupidest facts about themselves so the writers can make puns so awful that they should've gone on strike for having a hostile work environment.

I also enjoy the chase but only when I’m able to fast forward through 80% of it.I definitely prefer the fast rounds, but honestly the clue writing is way better than the old GSN version with the beast. The questions in the middle round on that show were way less trivia questions and more random things with the intention of allowing the chaser to catch the contestants, and it’s part of why the new version has so many people make it to the finals chase.

But yeah the clue writing isn’t always great but at least even stuff like “how did Holmes die?” sure it’s sloppy clue writing but also if you know anything about Holmes you know what one of those three answers they want.

Ken hosts next week's games, and then the week after that, but I think after that they go on hiatus (he would have taped in May). They'll be starting taping the new season relatively soon, though, so there's going to be a permanent host announcement, per Davies, in the very near future.

I refuse to hope.

Especially in light of the news that the studio audiences are back, which means they're starting the taping of the new season on August 2nd, so presumably they know who is going to be hosting it because surely they're not two weeks out from a new season and it's still up in the air.

But I guess you never know. BUT NO I WILL NOT HOPE. IT ONLY BRINGS PAIN.

It's usually a good idea, but the way that clue was worded you'd definitely expect her to respond that she needs the first name too. The contestant got away with one there because Mayim is terrible at her job

Even beyond that, there are certain names that are known to be ones that always need to be more specific.....and Adams is one of those. It's like knowing the "the" in "The Invisible Man" is critical, things you need to be aware of before stepping up to the podium, or knowing you can never just give the name "Roosevelt".

So I do partially put this on the contestant who should have known specificity should be required, it bugs me when they give ambiguous answers when it's known that won't suffice (just give the whole thing when you know it's one of these, it's a time waster unless you're using that to buy the time to fish for the first name in which case why are you ringing in?), but it's ultimately on the host to catch it.

Then there's this idiot who inexplicably wants to host this show despite admitting to not having watched it before in her life who clearly knows none of this.

Well, Dr. Bialik's time at the host podium is over for the season.

In my opinion, she didn't improve much if at all from her trial run. Her attempts at humor felt forced, her hosting was uninspired, Her passion was nonexistent. She was mediocre, not awful (Hi Oz and Whitaker) but all that matters is how the ratings are since bad ratings=no show. By the way, anyone who uses her gender, ethnicity, religion or other dogwhistle as grounds for ousting her need to conduct a self colonoscopy with a running Husqvarna.

Let's be honest. After the host debacle, Sony/CBS wanted her the be the sole host based on her Q score but Fox forced their hand. Now that her show's been renewed for a full season, My guess (and only a guess) is she'll only be in the specials due to schedule and Ken gets the daytime gig this season. After that, it's more Fox's decision than anything else and I doubt any good Ken does will make a difference.
