Season 3 of The Boys just felt like more of The Boys to me. I didn't think it was significantly worse or better than prior seasons, but it's possible the novelty has worn off for some. It's a show that kind of requires the violence to be shocking for maintain interest for most people, and I'm not really sure how it could get MORE violent.

The Boys S3 feels weirdly out of place, like they reset the stakes too quickly. A lot of the plots would feel better flipped between 2 and 3.

Joe Pera is in that weird place where most people aren't gonna go for it but if it clicks for you it's a big big click. Small but dedicated viewership is probably not a great model for streaming services.

With the presumably tiny production costs hopefully those dedicated folks can do something to bring the show back, though I'm not sure what. Patreon?

The show was better when it was The Boys who don't have powers vs the Supes and we can all agree that it's pretty cool to kill all the supes.

I turned it off like 15 minutes in and couldn't even be bothered to go to Wikipedia and read the summary to find out how it ended. Really really bad is an understatement.

Everything after season 1 is bad although this season was even more uninspired than the last.

Remember the plot line with kimikos brother? Neither does anyone else.

The acting is still good though and I hope that Ackles guy gets more work

Boo to the Orville for chickening out of the full polyamory sideplot.

There was never any sense that Lamar and Keyali actually loved each other, and the entire scope of their relationship began and ended at their ability to bang each other. If they had actually loved each other, it could have been an interesting topic (however it turned out) on a show that has handled interesting topics well before.

EDIT: Also, that actual ending felt weird. Having the Aryan rear end Ensign say "not all biologicals, but I get that slavery was really bad and had lasting effects" threw me off like that Mister Krabs spinning meme.

YOU CAN FLY!!!
The season finale of Ms Marvel on Disney Plus was yesterday. Overall a fun show, not without its problems, but turned out to be hugely influential on the MCU going forward, more than Dr Strange 2 or Thor 4 were even.

Some thoughts:

The Clandestines (the bad guys, the Djinn, the Noor, whatever you want to call them) were wildly underdeveloped, and never felt like a threat, especially given that they were eliminated in the 5th episode. Loved everything with Kamala's family and friends, but the show could have used a couple more episodes to better develop those relationships, as well as the bad guys.

Everything with the partition was very moving, even if we were given basically a history lesson in a 20 minute show.

The big reveal at the end that Kamala is actually a mutant, I didn't see that coming. I thought everything with her being Djinn/Noor was just the show's made up way of dealing with her powers. But no, they're going full in. It seems like they're just going to move forward and combine the ideas of mutants and inhumans, since inhumans were mostly just a way to stop getting stories to Fox to create blockbuster movies.

And the ending with Carol, seems like Kamala's band is a nega-band? Maybe they switched bodies when Carol was investigating Shang-chi's rings?

One of the better MCU shows. Looking forward to She-Hulk next month.

If anyone watches Sex Education, the actors who play Lily (the weird alien girl) and Ola (Lily’s gf, Otis’s ex-gf and kind of step-sister) have announced they’re not coming back for season 4. I don’t think they’ve officially said season 4 is the last season but I sure hope it is. A lot of the cast’s careers are taking off, so I’d expect them to lose even more if they make more seasons. I’m sure Ncuti Gatwa is going to be busy as Dr. Who and if he drops out they might as well just cancel the whole thing.

I could make some criticisms of Giri/Haji, it nearly lost me in the middle but it's absolutely worth a look. To pick a few other random examples:

* Bajo Cero / Below Zero is a movie but a lean and tense siege scenario. The Wasps Nest is more of an action film but good

* Bitter Daisies is a low key investigation piece that keeps twisting. I couldn't get into the second series

* Dark is really good but almost ridiculously complicated and you have to commit to the whole trip.

Lance Reddick has always been one of my favorite character actors, so i'm definitely gonna give this a try. The Milla Jovovich movies were totally ridiculous, but the guy they got to play Wesker in those hit it out of the park. Just an absolutely unrepentant, smug rear end in a top hat.

Season 1 was good, and a fun twist on the whole true crime podcast craze. Selena Gomez was definitely weakest part of the show, but it's kind of hard to stand out when you're in a cast of Steve Martin, Martin Short, Nathan Lane, and Amy Ryan. I was surprised when I saw a couple of articles talking about how she was snubbed by the Emmy nominations this year, left my head scratching, until I saw a couple more articles about how now publicists are doing this thing where they are paying money to publications to mention their clients as being snubbed for major awards when they were never in the running and weren't being put up for nominations by their studios or networks in the first place.
