Pratt fundamentally doesn’t seem to get what made him more compelling in Guardians and Parks and Rec, or he does and would rather just turn in bad performances miscast as a badass

Yeah, i remember the exact moment I realised he was going to be a leading man in Jurassic Park. He plays Andy, except in an alternate universe where Andy isn't a huge dumbass and is somehow considered smart and cool by the standards of the people around him.

Terminal List is basicaly Burt Macklin played straight but not as good as that sounds.

I think Worthington has Cameron to blame for that one. If he'd been in a whole trilogy of Avatar films that all made huge money his career would've taken twice as long to fizzle out.

The only heat he ever really had in his career was because Cameron cast him as the lead in Avatar, he got parts in Clash of the Titans and Terminator Salvation before anyone ever really saw him

He was good in Sabotage, though. Another poor victim of Brad Pitt/Jai Courteny syndrome: a character actor stuck as a leading man. Also, how do they keep ending up in the Terminator franchise?

And again, only Avatar is the same level of success as Guardians of the Galaxy or Jurassic World. Clash of the Titans and Terminator Salvation made money but they weren't in the same ballpark as the one-two punch that Pratt had in 2014 and 2015. So Pratt not only had a much bigger start to his A-list career, and the benefit of sequels which has allowed him to coast much longer than Worthington did.

Pratt also played a DEVGRU guy, the one with the most lines in Zero Dark Thirty, so the leap to action movie star in a series about Navy Seal Done Wrong isn’t too far.

He's perfect as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Rec. And, that's about it. I remember watching Guardians for the first time and thinking, man, this dude is not a good leading man. I'm sure Ive said this before, but he was easily the weak link in an otherwise strong cast. But, then again, I don't make choices involving kajillion dollar franchises, so maybe I just have bad taste.

At least I can now watch Alan Ritchson get some of the respect he deserves. Though, I suppose there is a bit of a parallel there. Two dudes who kind of made their initial mark as a comic actor, but only one has real screen presence and talent.

I can’t find the post, but somebody (SMG? me?) made a long rambling post about what I’ve always believed, that every Andy thinks he can become a badass. Just gotta cut back in the booze, hit the gym, go to kickboxing, and boom. This dude actually did it, the slacker dadbod dream. Huge vicarious wish fulfillment with that guy. Ran out of this goodwill though as HE doesn’t get this at all, he has zero self awareness.

Still wish we got Glenn Howerton as Starlord, different, more interesting movie. Then as a bonus we could have giant Dennis after giant Mac went to seed.

Saw that HBO Max has The Raid 2 available, went to watch it and the only language available for it is a Spanish dub?

Edit: Checked the first movie and it is available in English and Spanish.

In advance of the 200 million dollar Netflix-Ryan Gosling-Russo Brothers spy flick I decided to watch 6 Underground, the Netflix-Ryan Reynolds-Michael Bay 150 million dollar spy flick, because I suspect both are going to have similar flaws which might be interesting to compare. However, I didn't expect 6U to be a dull as it is. It's the most checked out movie Bay has made and you can just feel him giving less and less of a poo poo with each successive set piece - nothing outside the opening car chase is any fun at all. Reynolds just doesn't gell as a Bay protagonist, and the script feels like an algorithmic attempt to recreate the globetrotting superspy era of the Fast & Furious franchise. I think it might be the worst movie Bay has made.

I watched the opening Florence chase because I love the city (and hoo boy, did Bay molest the geography), then turned it off because I was already sick of every line being SCREAMED in an EXTREME CLOSEUP. Who are these people? What are they doing? Why? I don't know and I don't care. Bay can do a good car chase, but this wasn't one of them.

Ambulance was incredibly boring. It didn't even have good drone footage... I've seen so so much better from car drifting videos like 7 years ago.

Ambulance is hot dog water. The dogs are gone but at least... the water has flavor

The only thing I've seen of Ambulance is that behind the scenes clip floating in twjtter a few months ago of a stunt involving an ambulance almost taking out half a dozen crew members. Bat is absolutely going to do a Landis one day.

It's his best action movie since The Rock. Jake Gyllenhaal, like Will Smith and Nick Cage, really keys into Bay frequency which elevates it a lot.

ambuLAnce has a scene where the two leads are standing still in a garage talking to each other about the heist they're gonna go, and the camera is going absolutely wild whipping around them in a circle to create dramatic effect. it fails to achieve this and is just embarrassingly funny. at one point you can see the shadow of the camera guy on one of the actors lol.

jake g is great in it, tho, bc he hams it up. but i would never watch that movie again.

also im pretty sure with all the driving they do, they never get more than 5 miles away from dtla lol they're just going in circles.

I think I gave it a 6/10. I like the drone shots on some of the car chase scenes and it's funny how there's a character in it who's just there to talk about other Michael Bay movies. The people who think it's the next Fury Road are nuts though.

High Warlord Zog

The Rock wasn't the next Die Hard either. Both are solid B tier versions the 90s style limited location caper inflected thriller, but Ambulance was made in the 2020s.

Peppermint on Prime is basically the Punisher with Jennifer Garner playing Frank Castle. Gratuitous revenge porn with competently executed but bland action - bad guys take turns running into view and get shot. It's fine for casual viewing while doing something else.

It does that thing where it wants to show the protagonist is a badass but they come across as a lunatic instead.

Opinions are like a$$holes....everyone has one....but mines the best!!!
Chris Pratt is a likeable guy. That's basically it. If movie studios want to keep throwing bundles of cash at him to do cookie cutter action flicks/shows....it's not really his fault if they turn out lousy. He's just getting WAY overplayed.....kind of like Vince Vaughn in the mid to late 00s.

Anyways.....watched 'Black Hawk Down' for the second time ever. Probably since it first came out a couple of decades ago. GD.....I forgot how intense this movie was.....from start to finish.

Technically not a movie (although I guess it was also released as a movie?), but Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal is kind of a masterpiece. Best animation I’ve seen in years and incredible action. Feels like it got buried though I don’t really keep up with the cartoon scene. Season 1 is on HBO Max and the new season starts in a few days

Yes, it is absolutely amazing. I usually describe it as Mad Max Fury Road, but with dinosaurs.
The best part is nobody speaks, everything is shown through movement and action.

It also rules because no one in that movie knows how to stand or walk. Everyone's doing these weird, awkward movements the whole time except for Steven Berkoff, who's a great actor and a apparently the only actual person in the movie.

Saw Rutger Hauer in Blind Fury finally and I had a lot of fun. Most of yall have probably seen it already but it's definitely a top 80s action shlock recommend. Surprisingly heartwarming with a more or less positive male rolemodel action star other than some aged jokes. Overall the sense of humor is fun and sometimes actually kinda clever. And of course you've got a final showdown at a ski resort. Feels like a real crowdpleaser, plenty of moments for movie theater hooting and hollering.
Could've used a bit more blood and hands getting lopped off, but it's fun and it's got a deep colorful cast of bad guys. Randall "Tex" Cobb makes a great cigar chomping baddie named SLAG (who goes out like Darth loving Maul), you got Sho Kasugi as a flippy evil assassin, and Nick Cassavetes + Rick Overton play a scene-stealing pair of redneck hired thugs.
