I got to work at 645am this morning (normally get in for 9am). Left around 1130am when the office became sauna-like. I'm chillin' in my living room now - blinds shut, blackout curtains shut, fan pointing right at me, even a little shiver now and then. I did go to the window to peak outside and it's like a blast furnace. One Eight Seven (also known as 187) is a 1997 American crime thriller film directed by Kevin Reynolds. It was the first top-billed starring role for Samuel L. Jackson, who plays a Los Angeles teacher caught with gang trouble in an urban high school. The film's name comes from the California Penal Code Section 187, which defines murder.

I frog-boiled myself into thinking my office on the 2nd floor with all the windows was ok. Came down and it feels 10 degrees cooler. I'll be working from the dining table tomorrow, which is forecast to be our (NL) 38 degree day. It'll be like the beginning of Covid, where my wife took over my WFH setup because I had nothing to do. Plus it'll discourage the cats from hanging out upstairs just because I'm there. It's cooler downstairs, you foolish creatures!

Huh that's strange. Usually I just follow my cat who somehow knows where to find the coolest spot in the flat. I then snuggle him, thus undoing all his hard work

Thank you to the kind goons recommending foil on the outside of windows. Spent this morning ghetto-crafting reflective panels which I've now hung outside and it's a chilly 25c inside now. It's the sixth circle of hell outside.

This feels like a dumb af question, but is the heat affecting Internet speeds? Our connection has been patchy and slow all day, and loads of people at work are having similar issues.

Welp, I managed to get mild heat exhaustion at work. I've cooled myself down since coming home early but despite taking pain klllers two hours ago and sipping water, I've still got a thumping headache.

I'm on a flexi contract so "nerr nerr ne nerr nerr". I will happily take the mantle of snowflake as I am very much built for the snow and love a cold snap. Heat can gently caress right off.

Oscar Romeo Romeo posted:I'm told if its mounted on the inside of a double glazed window, excess heat can get trapped between the glazing and potentially cause the frame to warp. Not sure if true but didn't want to risk it myself. I tried the even cheaper version; newspaper blu-tacked to the outside of double-glazing and by god it works. The living room's perceptibly cooler and much more comfortable than the bedroom right above it - living room no curtains (thank you covid for delaying the fitters) and bedroom with curtains closed. Not letting the heat in in the first place is definitely the way you want to go. I reckon I can get hold of some cheap tension bars and make day screens for outside for a few quid out of charity-shop bedsheets or some such. Definitely what I want for the next 30deg+ day. Or space blankets, but I like having some light in...
