It's all about style. You have to walk right up to that craps table and rip the dice out of whoever's hand, and throw em across the room, and then get your rear end kicked by security. This will net you some fines but you'll likely not lose as much as you would have gambling.

I used to play poker with a buddy against some of his pub friends who didn't know me, and I cannot for the life of me remember hands, play mind games and I have mild number dyslexia to boot, but boy did I like drinking and gambling Let me tell you there's nothing seasoned poker players hate more than someone who is entirely unreadable. Sometimes I'd go all in because it seemed funny at the time and some of the responses I got when I went "I dunno, is this hand anything?" when we showed cards were gold. Someone got genuinely angry at me

I could tell stories all day, but in the crypto groups people love gambling compulsively. Not that it's much of a surprise but they love a martingale and gut instinct as well. That's before chauvinistic behavior and generally narcissism run amok. I'm just pointing out all their lovely failures but that's crypto anyway. notwithoutmyanus fucked around with this message at 04:46 on Jul 20, 2022 |

more falafel please posted:The system he was describing has a ~90% chance of a win or push on each spin, and in the video he didn't lose at all. You bet 10 on the first dozen, which pays 2:1, 10 on the third dozen, which pays 2:1, and 1 each on 10 of the middle dozen, which pays 35:1. So if you hit one of the 10, you get 35 - 29 = 6. If you hit the outside dozens, you get 20 - 10 - 10 = 0. The only way to lose is to hit 0, 00, or the two numbers on the inside you didn't bet on. I have a friend that lived in Vegas for a few years and that's pretty much how he saw it too. He'd place minimum bets at roulette, just betting on black or red, and spend $20 killing time, chatting, and getting free drinks.

Vegas is designed to make you feel like you're having a good time, constantly. Obviously that helps whales and problem gamblers spend way too much money, but it also helps 90% of people spend $300 on a Vegas weekend and feel like they had a really fantastic time. I've just never had the stomach for gambling more than like, going to Vegas for a wedding, playing a little bit, but with a $300 limit, and ending up down $50 over 3 days. Or like a $20 buy-in poker game once every 5 years, but again, that's a movie and popcorn. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, I just can't imagine betting an amount of money I'd regret having spent on frivolous poo poo the next day. I also can't imagine being up, say, $100 in blackjack and not immediately walking away.

Is he claiming after 3 wins that he's up $90? Even assuming you count winning a 35:1 odd hit.. aren't you up $105? Honestly confused where he is getting $90. Edit: Derp his betting unit is $5 not $1. Strong Sauce fucked around with this message at 08:21 on Jul 20, 2022 |

Yeah, a sandwich might cost less tomorrow but houses and cars also cost less so people aren't as eager to buy them because they can pay less if they wait. Same goes for any investment since you can "earn money" by just shoving it under your mattress. Oh, you already had a mortgage or credit card debt or whatever? Sucks to be you because the real value of that debt is going up every day. Hopefully your boss at the sandwich shop doesn't cut your wages because sandwiches are worth less now than they were yesterday. If you were talking about something other than "deflation=bad", then I apologize for misunderstanding. (For the record, inflation is also bad. So is stagflation. Basically anything the economy does is bad)

I thought modern policy tended to aim for a small amount (2-3%) of inflation year-on-year? As being the least-bad option.

I worded that poorly; NOT making life harder for the next generation goes against every principle of modern economics. But actually acknowledging that also goes against it. Many years ago when I went to Vegas I played nickel slots and had a great time. I have no idea how much I spent but it was nickel slots so I can’t imagine it was much. Do they even have nickel slots anymore? Also that was back when they used to actually dispense coins from the machines rather than doing it all electronically which is such an utterly depressing way of gambling

My only experience gambling was when I went up to Reno for a cousin's wedding. I lost 200 dollars on video poker, and the next day I dropped a quarter in a slot machine inside a grocery store and won 200 dollars back. I'm a break evener.

Edit: I made like $500ish on a really lucky night of blackjack. I don't mind gambling with like $100 or $200 dollars once in a rare while, usually as part of some trip with friends. Slots I never really enjoy, push button, erase money. Blackjack, roulette, craps, etc all at least seem fun to me while you're losing your money. Last time I gambled some rear end in a top hat got SUPER mad at me at the blackjack table because I decided to hit in a situation where perfect play would dictate you stand, I got lucky and didn't bust because it was a small card. He hit and busted and immediately started loving scowling at me and kept saying "THAT WAS MY loving CARD" at me for the following hand. I left because gently caress finding out what some angry, probably drunk gambler is going to do. wilderthanmild fucked around with this message at 14:38 on Jul 20, 2022 |

All of this, and the "you're sitting in my lucky chair" kind of poo poo that is usually grown out of by 4th grade but somehow full grown rear end adults are flipping out about it, in public no less.
