He's got to have some hefty legal fees and probably also paying for his mother's care. I hope he just ends up in a writers room where its easier to keep things in check. He makes so many corny jokes now about vegan, gluten free, etc he could write for CBS or TBS sitcoms.

Totally agree. He may still have the performer bug though, as immediate crowd reaction can be addictive like a drug, but I could totally see him doing something like a sidekick like Ian Carmel from the James Cordon Late show. Head writer but still involved in skits and bits. Not sure if his nose might prevent him from wanting to get in front of an audience though.

I am glad to see him doing somewhat “good” right now. He could even do what Mike Tyson did and have some sort of show (maybe without travelling) about how he was at rock bottom multiple times and how he’s made it through.

I'd be so happy if he could team up with Roger on one of his cartoons, as a VA or Writer. He released a new one this week that I already binged.

I was just about to send the Howard Stern Show Megathread a post, Robin.

Honestly, this thread dying on the vine isn't all that surprising given that it pretty much mirrors the trajectory and current status of the show itself. No one listens to it anymore, Howard's hardly ever even on air these days, he's gotten soft and lazy, he's relegated to mostly B or C tier interviews and no one under the age of 45 or 50 really gives much of a poo poo about him at all.

We might be the longest running thread because I recall posting in GBS and podcasts were not a thing.

I've enjoyed watching Reddit chase Brent Hatley. There was a report not long ago that their landlords issued a cease and desist order to have them stop producing porn (only fans content) in their 2 bed room apartment. Apparently the "bulls" that they lined up to gently caress Kaitln were just hanging out in the lobby for hours.

When he wa son live I still tuned in somewhat regularly. Like maybe an hour or two a week.

AN HOUR OR TWO A WEEK? SO IN OTHER WORDS YOU WERE LISTENING TO THE ENTIRETY OF EVERY SHOW?!?! :hurr:!!

There would usually be *something* that would get me to listen for a little bit, but typically as soon as I heard that *knock knock, creaking door* "oh hey look its (an impersonation of someone who might be relevant to whatever they're discussing)" I usually tune the gently caress out and don't bother going back unless there is nothing else on the other channels that interests me.

The Ronnie Vs Lenny Dykstra Jeop-horny was pretty decent, but other than that there ain't hardly been poo poo.

I don't, no.

I gave it a spin when Sirius offered free log ins during the initial round of the pandemic and it was pretty poo poo.

Once in a while I'll go down a Whack Pack/Gary/Artie/Richard and Sal YT rabbit hole or something but I was pretty bored with the current content, to put it mildly. Howard is the least interesting and most unfunny person on his own loving show right now. Worse, the rerun channel (101 I think) rarely puts up any classic bits and just plays tired poo poo from the previous weeks, which is pretty weird.

As much as Stern rails on it, Youtube has funnier poo poo and better content than Sirius does.

The last full show I heard was around the Artie/Teddy event. About a week after that I got laid off and work was when I would listen. I have both a) listened live only once and b) have only listened to two full episodes in the entirety of my experience with this show. I heard the Dan Rather episode back in 2014 (full ep, live), and the episode the first day back after ETA died (full upload on youtube, hours afterwards).

I've listened to the show for about 20 years via mp3's so I'm usually able to listen to entire shows. It takes me more than a day to listen to one episode so I eventually fall behind and then catch up during their vacations. Since the pandemic, I don't have the daily drive to work to prod me into listening so I've fallen way behind. I'm currently on March 1, 2021.

I don't really have a huge drive to listen, it's not that interesting and his guests are now the entire show so if I don't like the guest I basically skip the entire episode.

2008 (fairly sure it was April). Shows from the early satellite years, before the merger for sure and sorta through 2009ish (as long as Artie wasn't "dancing" -- meaning completely obnoxious), were overall great and had a lot of energy.

True. I think the very early Sirius days when Howard was first free of the FCC and the censors and also when Artie was on were really great. It was the right mix of freedom, a really weird cast of characters/staff, decent and interesting guests and just the right amount of infighting and studio drama that was enough to carry a four hour show and, often, throughout the entire week.

But it's pretty loving boring now. Maybe because since the pandemic and all the remote work, the staff doesn't piss each other off enough to generate all the weird sagas the show is famous for since they're not in close quarters?

The show is so bad that the guests have started subtly calling out Howard on it. Andy Cohen and Mad Dog Russo have both asked Howard why he isn't back in the studio yet, why don't they even do the news segment anymore, etc. David Spade has made fun of Howard for practically working one day a month and turning the show into a glorified podcast.

Howard stammers out some excuse but it's clear to everyone that he has no ambition for his career and doesn't care about the audience. When Ronnie was planning on retiring and moving to Las Vegas, Howard admitted that he was only continuing the show for the money.

Is Howard even getting decent bookings anymore? At this point it is pretty disrespectful to ask guests to show up in their studio only for him to talk to them over Zoom (with him looking way off camera because he requires his camera be on "his good side"). I'm actually shocked that Sirius signed him for another 5 years knowing that he was going to take two month breaks and stay remote. I actually listened to every show and the occasional wrap up until they took off for two months last year and the "awesome new material" they rolled out was as bad as everything else on H101. Couldn't justify my annual membership after that and haven't missed it since.

Sand Monster
Apr 13, 2008

The show exists largely for Howard to attempt to rewrite his legacy as "the world's greatest interviewer" instead of what he was known for in the "I was out of my mind back then" era that he wants to pretend never happened, featuring the same "friend of the court" repeat guests over and over, and/or personalities who have programming on SXM that are making the rounds on other SXM shows.

I think he always benefited from Sirius in this manner. Celebs would be come to the building to be go around to any relevant channels and do an interview or record some spots. Remember Gary bragging about how they never had to call anyone, agents called THEM to book an appearance.

He is a very good interviewer and always has been.

He has a talent for getting people to drop their guard and open up along with asking...what?...I guess "brave" questions one could say but the moment I knew he had jumped the shark or whatever you call it was when he got Robert Plant in the studio and completely poo poo the bed with it. Howard's a huge Zeppelin fan, I assumed he did his homework and had one of the gods of rock sitting right there then proceeded to conduct an interview so boring and stupid that even Plant called him out on what the gently caress was going on with it and damned near walked out.

Hell, if Artie, Richard or even Gary were allowed to lob questions at Plant it would have been better - even if Robert didn't want to chat all too much about Led Zeppelin's heyday and preferred to talk about his new poo poo and the Grammy awards he was racking up with that material.

That interview was a loving train wreck.

I listened to the show for a little longer after Artie's departure, but the writing was on the wall. A lot of people were soured by the lack of Artie news/his gradual erasure from the show's history, especially as there was nothing left to fill it.

2006-09 shows are amazing, even if they do have waves (merger talk was death for about a year there). They got me through some dead-end jobs during University and they'll hold a special place in my heart for that.

In hindsight the paywall really killed a lot of the fun that came from the audience. I'm listening through the entire year 2000 right now and every show has a constant stream of dumbass/interesting/funny calls from listeners which really kept the energy up and helped celebrity interviews tbh.
