I bet it'll end up being walked back to "only obese and smokers pay" because they're popular groups to poo poo on even though they actually save the NHS money in aggregate.

It’s catch-22. The NHS needs vast reform, but doing so is political dynamite. It’s hardly surprising the only thing the public can stomach is slow privatisation, because a political party coming in and going ‘we need to radically reshape the NHS over a ten year period’ would be completely unpalatable, and impossible anyway because of the intellectual skills drain so they’d just end up hiring management cunstultants who’d bankrupt the entire project.

Six months ago the Graun was moaning about how the legacy of the Olympic park was one of total failure, and yesterday there’s an article that’s clearly a breathless fanfic written onehanded about it.

The wife made a vegan Cabonara with corgette and Tofu instead of meat.

It was really nice. I'm also fully aware that in Italy it almost certainly couldn't be called a Cabonara because it changed the "traditional" recipe or something.

It's not even about tradition, which is just the tyranny of dead men, gently caress them all. Most of them had bland palates after a lifetime of considering salt a luxury.

You certainly ate a meal, made out of some ingredients, but there are infinite possible new names for it.

People make fun of Italians for this but if someone asked if you wanted a Full English, and then they served you some Quorn on Toast, even if you enjoyed it you wouldn't consider that to be a Full English. Because it's not. It's not what those words mean.

If material conditions as a whole meant people started substituting those ingredients in, then sure, the meaning of Carbonara has changed, perhaps over a generation or two. But it's just your wife.

Terrible idea. Given that Khan is fairly centrist but has been consistently hosed over by Tory funding because he had the audacity to be a reddish mayor in a blue city, Corbyn would be a fool to even consider it. He’d stand a chance of getting in and then would have his funding cut so catastrophically that it would be an unmitigated disaster as he tried to run TFL on two dried apricots and a mouldy fig (which Truss would say was pure communist profligacy).

"Smart" devices are computers that don't get treated like computers, not just by the users but especially by the manufacturers. They just sit there like a loving piece of furniture that doesn't need updating or maintenence. You can trivially use an android phone to open a terminal and gain root and just do whatever the gently caress you want on that person's entire network. Samsung TVs are notorious for this.

If that's luddite now then I'd hate to find out what you tech-savvy people are doing.

Like specifically the luddites were people who thought that industrialization was taking away their means of making a living and forcing them into worse jobs for worse wages while the factory owners reaped all of the benefits, which is 100% indisputably correct, a material fact. And a process which was explicitly encouraged by the government.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite

So it is always funny to me that people persist in using the term to describe something that is in some way wrong.
