I don't think the 100% taxation = 0 tax revenue is the part of the laffer curve that bugs people.

It's the vague possibility of a lower tax rate meaning more revenue leading to economists saying

"hey why don't we lower the rate? maybe it will spur a lot of growth. or the worse that can happen is less government revenue which means either more government debt or less welfare"

Right, there's only two points on the curve we're duye about and everyone who ever brings it up seriously always says that we're on the tail end of the curve and by gum any decrease will raise revenue. You'll see!

if people hyping the laffer curve took it seriously they'd be calling for higher taxes considering the revenue datapoints we already have. it's another way to pretend your views are based on logic and reason without basing them on the reality we inhabit

That would only be true if the people hyping the laffer curve understood graphs with actual numbers on them

That would only be true if the people hyping the laffer curve understood graphs with actual numbers on them didn't actively choose to misunderstand graphs telling them things they did not want to hear.

The Dunning-Kruger effect may or may not be real, but that figure in their paper can be reproduced using data consisting of randomly generated numbers, so there’s a decent chance it’s a statistical artifact.

Yeah, it's literally just "if you cannot ever make money due to taxes, you won't use money anymore". You'd barter or use scrip or lie, but the government wouldn't see a dime.

this was the byzantine-era aristocrat's way of getting out of ever paying taxes. if you had enough slaves on your estate to make everything you'd otherwise have to purchase, there would never be any movement of money therefore no taxation.

So the robot goes and checks if the pot is on the stove, and then what? It can't do anything with it so you still have to get up. And if you're not at home? You get... the satisfaction of being able to look at your stuff?

You know how in all those sci-fi dystopias the rich live above the poor so they can literally look down on them? As a metaphor, it's a bit on the nose but it gets the job done. Anyway, why not do that in real life?

In reading this, I think what they are ACTUALLY claiming is that there will be a high-speed rail system that theoretically could achieve a speed of ~500km/h, not that you, a resident of LINE could actually ever travel end to end in 20 minutes. Which is bullshit, but at least remains in the realm of... err... 'physics'.

Given that they're also claiming that 'residents are no more than 5-minutes walk from amenities', and that average walking speed is ~4km/h (generously), you'd need a station every ~650m, or... 261 stations end-to-end (ignoring any vertical transport, which you cannot for a structure 500m tall) , so if your train averages 20km/h over that distance, you're lucky.

to me it seemed like there’ll be a dedicated train that only goes end to end with shorter/slower “local” lines that make individual stops
