Yeah that ending reveal :stare:

Now Operation Strix has a Plan C: the mommy scheme. Such a great way to get Yor involved with the main mission.

Knew it and saw it coming a mile away. Still gasped. It's been a bit of a headcanon that the Desmond family is...normal for given measure.

The question though is will it explode from general stress or the stress of trying to find a way to insert Yor into Melissa's social circle without revealing his mission?

I have really hard time seeing Donovan Desmod opening up to anyone, including his wife. I assume he is courteous and observant, but otherwise an enigma to her.

Also I echo the overall sentiment, this is a really good way for Yor to get entwined into the main narrative.

I think in her case the expressions are literal. There's gotta be one or two targets that died of heart failure from her stare.

It's also entirely possible his mother gives him the barest shred of acknowledgement, but his dad doesn't even give him that. Either way, neither were at the class photo with the students and the parents, so probably not the best parents.

This. I actually assumed they were divorced since Desmond never mentioned her.

It legitimately never occurred to me that there was a Mrs. Desmond. I can’t imagine Donovan holding hands with someone, much less having a kid.

The other possibility is that Damian's relationship with his mother is good enough that he doesn't really think about it much, since there's no reason for us to see him think about something he considers completely normal really given it doesn't provide any drama or as much potential for comedy during the few moments we do get anything from his perspective. Mind you, that still doesn't explain her absence from the school during the opening ceremony etc. but it's possible Desmond thinks distance is required and forbid her from coming as a way to keep her a good mother trying her best under less than ideal circumstances.

That said, while the plot development of this is nice I'm honestly happier that Yor has her own support characters and friends, so hopefully we'll get to see more of them and Yor just hanging out and having fun. It's also funny that despite Yor and Anya not being related, they have a lot of the same expressions for shock and reactions to the thought of being found out by catastrophizing in exceptionally over the top ways.

i wonder if this is a set up to get the Forgers and the Desmonds acting as each other’s foils when it comes to the main plot

Clearly, this means we’re getting a time skip to high school Anya now that all the players have met at the table :v:

All that while telling herself to be gentle and hold back. Is it any wonder the other team apparently wanted to cry?

they're the LADY PATRIOT'S SOCIETY I think "appearing to be nice" is about all they've got, especially with that look at the end.

I bet they're about as on-the-level as our real world "Patriot" groups

Darth Walrus

Given the tone, themes, and style of storytelling of the manga so far, I'd assume that Melinda's purpose is to be the misguided but fundamentally decent parent who the Forgers help rebuild a proper family relationship with Damian in a heartwarming way, letting Donovan be the no-good rotten Bad Dad and Blofeld-esque supervillain who gets rewarded with a spectacular spy/assassin beatdown as his plans crumble around his ears. Introducing Yor to a Desmond she needs to kill just seems too easy. Introducing her - the incredibly self-conscious, socially-awkward weak link of the Forger family who's nevertheless a great mom in her own odd way - to an apparently perfect 'ordinary housewife' who needs to be taught how to be a proper mother seems like much more fun.

As for the rest of the Lady Patriots' Society, I assume that they'll mainly just be a bunch of basically decent, ordinary women stuck trying to live decent ordinary lives despite being in (informally or formally) arranged marriages to a bunch of horrible fash, and Yor will be the manic pixie dream assassin who teaches them that they can reach for something more. There will be one or two scary true believers, of course, but I suspect they'll only be secondary antagonists for Yor to rally the other wives against, rather than being the default personalities within the group. Spy X Family likes to go sentimental and crowd-pleasing - Endo isn't going to completely rob the main heroine of a chance at a proper friendship group who love and appreciate her for who she is.
