Not really. Every D&D party is essentially made up of chaotic evil psychopaths, even if some of them think they're lawful good paladins.

Yeah im really happy they went with a non binary person for Desire. The best character in the comic. Way cooler than that dork Dream.

That was a really smart move for Desire. I feel like they should be someone that nearly everyone could project their own, well, desires onto.

This article has a good encapsulation of the general criticism: https://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1980&context=jrf
I recommend reading Kimberley Crenshaw's critique in full; it will sound very familiar given the discussions about BP on these forums but still worth the time: https://accradotalt.tumblr.com/post/171077996580/kimberle-crenshaws-take-on-black-panther-rings
Adolph Reed also had some thoughts about the movie: https://thebaffler.com/salvos/the-trouble-with-uplift-reed

I'm sure there is other more recent stuff but that's what comes to mind. I'll try and dig up more. It's not to the extent of Black communities turning on the the movie or whatever, just reckoning with the various flaws and cultural connections. Like a friend of mine said, it's a good movie but the way people to respond to it changed fairly significantly once they took their "black history month" glasses off.

Trailer has some weird edits, but I guess they're trying to hide some of the actual moneyshots. Action looks like a better version of The Gray Man.

Yeah, they filmed them back to back IIRC. Most of this trailer was actually in X, after the credits.

i feel like all these "smart" horror movies always cop out in the third act so i'm going to bet the shots of the "monster" in this trailer are misdirection

I don't know I kind of agree. I feel like the movie is either really bad or the monster is her mental health projection ala The Babadook

The director previously did a movie called The Villainess which had the same style of complex stuntwork shot by constantly flying and spinning cameras. It got a bit exhausting over a feature-length runtime and unmotivated movement for the sake of looking cool kind of bugs me, but it had some good sequences. It had a single-shot motorcycle sword fight that was the inspiration for John Wick 3's very similar scene, for example.

Thanks for reminding me to re-watch The Villainess. That movie has some epic old school Hong Kong cinematography tricks. Will definitely watch this knowing that.

It's so obvious that this movie gives a poo poo about the story as opposed to the others. Can't wait to hear more of the music, too, since it's a musical. That first teaser had a great sound to it.

Guillermo Del Toro so I have the feeling some of the more hosed up parts of the book are sure to find their way into there. That's a white-wash trailer and I don't blame Netflix at all.

It's gonna be wild though if a bunch of families are watching and, I dunno, Pinocchio smashes some kid's nose to smithereens with his school pencil box, bites off one of the cat’s paws, or murders Jiminy Cricket for trying to tell him the right thing to do and then is haunted by his ghost. Or see his friend die as a donkey from exhaustion and being overworked or one of the many many other hosed up things that happen in the book.
