Some of these characters are old enough so have witnessed species changing over time. Real life humanity figured it out in the 1800s with our significantly shorter lives. It's also just a fun side note. Why do the demons, elves and humans look alike? Because there's just something about that form that goes hand in hand with intelligence. Huzzah! posted:Chapter 96 I'd say it was quite a boring way to resolve the issue, but of course, it depends on what happens next since the final page reveals that it's probably not the end of the fight; whether that means Denken has bought time before Macht can transmute himself or it'll happen immediately, and whether or not the rest of Denken's tactics are to pull out previously unrevealed magics that have had no real foreshadowing or build up to turn the tables.

Oh wow, the way Serie gives away complicated magic... It makes a surprising amount of sense. I really liked the call back to Serie's one spell prize. Makes perfect sense given what we've learned about Denken. Macht is already reversing his gold curse. Not sure what that says about the nature of demon consciousness. Or maybe he already started reversing once he realized he was turning to gold?

If you couldn't do large scale defensive barriers like that the balance of your setting wouldn't work out, as the Demons would be unstoppable. It's a pretty good trope that a bunch of people working together can make something even the strongest individual can't match. Plus demons are intrinsically asocial so they would need to be forced to work together to overcome it. Plus it ties into more common arcana sensibilities of the fantasy genre 1) Large scale ritual 2) Harmonized with an existing natural barrier 3) Requires some small continual maintenance to keep it going.
