How are the various melee weapon options in the new edition? I got the impression that it was all power axes all the time before and the other weapons weren’t great. Did they make 2 handed chain swords worth using because they look awesome.

I'm thinking of adding bolt pistols to my MK3s and MK6s, but the holstered ones look too small to be actual pistols + I don't like how they're clearly sans magazines.

So I'm considering going for just 3DP regular pistols that I'd just glue MAGLOCK to the hip - how is that for an idea?

at least they're separate for these, i've cut off a few that were moulded on and it sucks cleaning that up

I think it can look ok, though you run into the reason why the holstered pistols are magically smaller pretty quick with poses that just don't really leave a good space to put the actual pistol

My understanding is that there are four vague tiers of weapons: those that can deal Brutal wounds like thunder hammers (or otherwise Instant Death 2W models, like a power fist), those that can reliably pierce 2+ saves like power axes, those that pierce 3+ saves like power spears, and the rest (honorable mention to chainaxes for volume of attacks). With wound pools inflating thanks to 2W assault specialists and just gestures to the whole deal with Dreadnoughts, folks are looking for ways to quickly chew through them.

This assumes an all-comers list looking to compete with what's broadly considered "good," of course. If one's local meta doesn't make a habit of taking artificer armor on everything and limits their Dreads to a tasteful quantity, weapon choices open up greatly.

All me. I base in an 80/20 tamiya clear blue/green, dust with green from above and blow from below, then use a 70/30 mix of glaze medium/clear blue to blend. Airbrush does all the work (except the glaze, that’s brush applied).

Plentiful, but stupidly expensive. I've just about given up on making a full 10 Tyrants at this point - every eBay seller wants ten to fifteen loving dollars a launcher as of the last few times I've checked. Nobody even uses havoc launchers to justify it!

Cyclone launchers from the oldminators kit?

I can't imagine it's a popular loadout when you have the asscan.

Asscan and Cyclones are probably about 50-50 in terms of popularity. Asscan isn’t near as hot as it was when that kit was new.

Cyclone style launchers are certainly cheaper, they're just also ugly :v: I already built one of them, so I'll at least end up getting the other 4 to make a 5-man squad consistent, but I'll probably push it off far enough that I just get the launchers from vehicle kits instead of buying them on their own.

Sick, that sounds like a lot of work but it looks worth it. Have you thought about inking around where the transition meets the "normal" colors? I feel like that might make it pop even harder, but maybe not.

Thanks for that. I hope the heavy weapons kit comes out soon. Also it's a bit early to consider this but I'm hoping to make a Salamanders army as well some day. For that I'm thinking of close range tanky infantry and dreadnoughts. Anything else I should consider for it?

They've done a pretty good job finding niches for most melee weapons. Not all are equal, and we're missing several non-marine armies, but its still way more diverse than before:
  • Paragon Blades: AP2 at initiative for preators with a chance for instant death, but expensive
  • Thunder Hammers: Brutal (2) for dreadnought and multi wound hard target hunting, unwieldy and expensive
  • Dual lightning claws: Buckets of attacks with rending and shred, at initiative. Best when spammed in a unit
  • Chianfist: For hunting armor and TEQ in a pinch. Unwieldy, but no longer a specialist weapon and cheaper than some others
  • Powerfist: When you can't take a chainfist, for hunting TEQ and doubling out multi wound characters. Unwieldy
  • Poweraxe: When you can't take a powerfist, for hunting TEQ or lighter. Unwieldy, but cheap
  • Powersword: When you can't take dual lightning claws and you have 3 attacks base. Massed rending at initiative
  • Powerlance: When you want to kill MEQ before they can strike. Cheap AP3 at higher initiative than the other guy
  • Powermaul: For clobbering anything that isn't a marine at initiative
  • Bae < Chain Bae < Chainsword < Chain Axe < Heavy Chainsword: When you want an edge in melee, but can't take a power weapon. Larger ones get you better results, but cost more
  • Charnable weapons: When you have a cheap character you wanna use to take the challenges of enemy beatsticks. Or spammed for mass rending

So I got the decal sheets, but as the best / most visible armor graffiti colour for Night lords would be white... I'm looking for print shops with white tonner nearby.

Didn't think this completely through. Anyway, I can do test runs at my home printer on normal A4 paper, checking text size and fonts, etc. And once I have the sheet ready I can bring it to a nearby print shop hopefully.
Not like I don't have a lot of other stuff to do on the army. So have to take things slowly.

Looking for some ideas on what to do with the Cataphracti terminators in the starter box as I'm going Deathguard. I haven't made any list that take them over the Gravewardens.

Can I convert them into Gravewardens or what's my best use of them I guess is what I'm asking

-Use brass rod, plastic tubing, and a spare scope to convert a basic bolter into a Nemesis.
-Eliminator rifle from the 40k range (it's enormous, though - good for the Instrument, less so for a regular Nemesis).
-The 40k Mechanicus range has a lot of long-barreled, baroque rifles.
-The aforementioned rod and tube on the tacticool boltgun from one of those 40k mkX guys.
-Deathwatch Stalker bolter.
