I mean with the prices that Gibson are commanding these days, why look past the original article? On that note, here's a guitar that cost me $750 AUD, which is approximately a pack of smokes, a pint of beer and a tank of petrol over here ATM Classic Vibe baritone tele in 3 tone sunburst. Needs a bit of a set up, but sounds unreasonably good for the money. These things are everywhere atm, and absolutely slay guitars worth twice the price, including Fender's own player series stuff. Go play one. Don Dongington fucked around with this message at 14:57 on Jul 26, 2022 |

Those CV 60s custom telecasters are beautiful. I love the binding but I want one with some funky colors so I can throw Bigsby and filtertrons into it.

Usually they're sunburst but this one comes in a special edition red metallic finish. I really like the double binding and the paint.

Holyshityholyshitholyshit, to say I'm a little excited would be an understatement. Last Friday night I was browsing Buya.com, which is a website for Pawnshops that is basically a pricing and inventory resource, but also acts as an online storefront. Came across a listing titled "GUITAR W/CASE-HONDO II PRO" with no pictures and a $95 price tag with ~$27 shipping. My brain says "Well, if it's a Pro, that's probably a Professional, which would be one of the Made in Japan ones, and a ridiculous price. If not, the price isn't bad for any Hondo except for the 90s Strat copies. GO FOR IT!" So I buy it, get the shipping notification the next day, and today... Made in Japan by Tokai around 1980, Hondo Professional H-1090. Essentially a Tokai Breezysound for a significantly smaller price. Now, will need a new tone pot since the shaft is broken, and the switch tip and one knob are missing. Also needs the usual clean up, strings, and setup. That may wait for new tuners, it has the cheap stamped ones right now. Oddly, they were supposed to come with a non-branded 70s Fender F-style stamped tuner, but I now have a few of the Pros that came with the cheap stamped ones.

And a day later... Hondo II Pro H-1100, made in Japan by Tokai, a 4 bolt neck version of the Goldstar model. Dates to 1979, arguably a nicer guitar than Fender was making at the time. "Ash" body that is probably Japanese Sen So I have a matched set now

MORE poo poo!!! Mid to late 60s DeArmond "mustache" gold foil 80s "Mach1" Les Paul copy made by Samick in Korea that has been turned into a 2 string bass. It is dirty and nasty and awesome. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, would be an easy switch back to guitar or could probably flip as-is or keep it because look at it.

Finally got a board sorted: Pedaltrain Novo 18 Does anyone know how I can mount that PSU on the bottom? It seems to need a bracket but the Pedaltrain and Cioks websites are not very helpful. It fits in that top slot underneath but it's too deep so the plugs wouldn't fit when plugged in. I tried velcroing it to that middle rail underneath but is about 5mm too fat and touched the ground there.

Got a Z piano rack with a second tier on casters; now I can move the pianos in and lock myself in this snug little corner. That 27" iMac was inherited, out of support from Apple, runs various DAWS and JACK audio / midi just fine. Next steps are to wall mount that iMac where the whiteboard is, send the whiteboard to a gulag, finish up cabling and then clean up and hide my cable job as best as possible, and I think I've got the new version of my home studio done, with the added advantage that the whole coffin plus the hydrasynth can get tossed in my car pretty easily and all I need to hook up to my friends' setup is a couple 120v ac connects and 1-2 1/4" or XLR jacks for me to feed my board or behringer adapter . Next up? Probably more eurorack. Maybe an electric uke?

Counting down two weeks until NGD. I have always wanted an S-Series Ibanez, but never found one that quite blew up my skirt. Until last night. Y'all gotta look at this beauty. The things I didn't like as much about S-Series guitars (I have several JEM/RGs, love them) was I could never find one that didn't have the face covered up with pickup mounting rings and floating trems. In 2019 I bought this handsome lady: That is an RG1070 with a mahogany body and a flame maple cap, in a natural matte finish. It's been a great addition to the collection. It came loaded with a ToneZone, a DiMarzio Blue Velvet middle, and an Air Notron neck pickup. I'm looking for a replacement for the neck pickup now, as it's not that great. Not that bad either, but it is missing the pick attack I like in the neck; which I prefer voiced like a '59 with vintage-mid gain. Last night I found this pretty thing, and it looks like it was meant to be mine. It's like an S-Series version of the above guitar. Mahogany body with a book-matched flame maple cap (bound), in natural matte finish and gold hardware. What I *love* about it is the bridge, the neck, the electronics. It's a roasted maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard. Hard-tail bridge string-through body. It's H/S/S with a ToneZone, a Blue Velvet middle and a Blue Velvet neck pickup. And I love that the pickups are direct-mounted to the body. It's so much cleaner than the pickup mounting rings you see all over the S-Series line. I already have a ToneZone so I am browsing DiMarzio's site for something to replace that with, too. I'll probably try a Satchur8 or, more likely, a Mo' Joe (those are Satriani's pickups, and my JEM77 has a FRED I put in the bridge and like a lot, which is Satriani's first DiMarzio pickup from back in the day). Not sure I can fit a push-pull pot in this thin body, so I may not be able to install switching on the bridge humbucker like I usually do. Click here for the Ibanez product page. Click here to see it on Sweetwater. I'll finish up with some pics I stole off the web and re-hosted. I see them available online both new and used. I went to GC and Sam Ash here in Charlotte and holy poo poo there is just no inventory on the walls, especially nothing from Ibanez. Lots of Strats, Teles, Gibsons (LTDs) and Schecters though. Half of the wall at Sam Ash were some really nice-looking Fender-likes branded Michael Kelly Guitars I've never heard of. I did find an S-Series at Sam Ash that looked like it would clean up nice, it was an almost-black transparent finish on a quilted top. So almost black I didn't notice the QM until it the body was pointed up at the ceiling lights. Floating trem and pickup rings, so I'll pass. It's been awhile since I had a jones for a new guitar, and for once this isn't some $1.5k-$3k thing (although I could get a Guthrie Charvel, but that can wait). This SEW761FMNTL is $799.99 and SW will either help me out a bit or I'll get them to work with me on a gig bag. This guitar just looks gorgeous to me, and it matches my newest RG beautifully. If things work out with the audition I have coming up Sunday they will be stage guitars together. Awww. Check out how thin it is, and I really can't wait to get my left hand around that neck joint. I'm going to be recuperating from surgery over the weekend, but I've got two new toys to keep me occupied: This monster, which I got for a steal used -- it's got literally hundreds of effects, plus tuner & looper. I know it's hardly the state-of-the-art these days, but it should be fun to play with. Also, I got this in the Fender clearance sale: Babby's first interface bundle ... mic stand on order from Sweetwater

Picked up a Cuvave cube baby for something like $50 aud on Aliexpress the other week and it showed up the other day. This thing is nuts for the money. You get: - a USB interface/DAC (for PC or android/iOS) - amp modeller and effects unit - headphone amp - tuner - Bluetooth audio receiver - tuner - IR loader (with custom IR support apparently) - 3 assignable presets - battery powered (rechargable internal lithium) Thing will fit in your guitar case or gig bag and allow you to play basically anywhere as long as there's some sort of amplified speaker or headphones to plug into. The amp models are fairly average by today's standards, but I'd say the closest thing that does all of that with truly great modelling is the $400 Hotone One, at 8x the price and several times the size. Also grabbed another hanger so I can finally pop everything on the wall Obviously I need at least two more to fill all that empty space right

I don't love like every guitar ever, but I do love teles. I really really love my pointy guitars. So I love that picture. And even though I said I wouldn't I spent today looking at Guthrie Govan Charvels on Reverb. I think I could score a flame maple for about $2500. I have about ten days to think about it. i am in love with that S Series but the GG Charvel is quite a guitar.

Yeah I got their little "M-Vave Chocolate" bluetooth stomp switch and I'm surprised by the build quality. The app is kinda minimal and hideous but you only use it for changing the configuration, which I think I'll only ever need to do once.

The Leck posted:Which hangers are those? I’ve been thinking about getting some to free up floor space. It looks like they’re close enough together that they aren’t all screwed into studs - do you find them stable enough? I had some non-stud hangers for a while, but my drat schecter bass was too heavy and fell off the wall one day. what I ended up doing was mounting my hangers to a plank of wood, which was then mounted to the studs. Not the most pretty, but it let me have all my guitars hanging instead of only like 3 of them.

The wooden ones look like string swing, not sure about the metal. Imo the best way to attach things to drywall and not studs is to use toggle bolts, far and away the best drywall anchor system out there. There are about $1-2 each but well worth it.

I have string swings and most are mounted with toggle bolts. I think I was only able to line one or two up with a stud to use a normal screw. Toggle bolts are absolutely the right fastener to use for this.

They're all Hercules brand, have had them for years and never had an issue. They have two little prongs that swing up when you pop the guitar in to prevent it from coming out unless you lift it up, like their guitar stands. The metal base ones have 3 screws vs 2 on the wood ones, so better if you're hanging basses or have stud walls.

I finally picked up a Helix LT. I’m not going to post a picture as everyone knows what they look like. I asked what the best price they could do was and they knocked $100 off the retail price which isn’t amazing but it’s something. I’m very overwhelmed but also super excited. Last night I was playing along to a Parkway Drive song and I know they use 5150s into Mesa cabs. I slapped those in and the tone was like 80% there, pretty awesome.

I got an RC-300 at a great price second hand at my favorite local shop. I'm looping, pals, I'm really looping now. Sent the EHX 720 back for being unnecessary and limiting by way of comparison. I know newer tech has somewhat better audio (this is 44.1khz/16-bit, sounds fine to me), and allows 5-6 simultaneous tracks whereas this has 3, but I made a whole song on the spot in store with the three track and its built in percussion generator and had people listening in, it was a lot of fun and I think I'm going to be really happy with this for less than half the price of one of those newer units with so many tracks (even used). LOOPS
