what a bullshit arrest jfc

quote:

On December 5, 1979, while Vaughan was in a dressing room before a performance in Houston, an off-duty police officer arrested him after witnessing his usage of cocaine near an open window.[58] He was formally charged with cocaine possession and subsequently released on $1,000 bail.[59]

the statue was of that guy in austin. his 1983 album texas flood sold millions. so, the statue was in flooding recently and hence in the news. the post quoted was wishing for Texas flooding. the arrest is remarkably bad but now trivial information on this tangent. i should be clearer. :justpost:

pretty sure that living through a flood where 11" of rain fell in 4 hours hosed me up good for 5 or 6 years (I was 10 when it happened).

apparently named after Oliver Hazard Perry who fought the Barbary pirates and later died of yellow fever in Venezuela shortly after taking advantage of Simón Bolívar’s absence to have that country sign an anti piracy law to protect US interests.

this disease has some relation to weather and is likely to spread with increased weather events and changing climate.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-022-03492-9

quote:

Yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes among human and non-human primates. In the last decades, infections are occurring in areas that had been free from yellow fever for decades, probably as a consequence of the rapid spread of mosquito vectors, and of the virus evolutionary dynamic in which non-human primates are involved. This research is a pathogeographic assessment of where enzootic cycles, based on primate assemblages, could be amplifying the risk of yellow fever infections, in the context of spatial changes shown by the disease since the late 20th century. In South America, the most relevant spread of disease cases affects parts of the Amazon basin and a wide area of southern Brazil, where forest fragmentation could be activating enzootic cycles next to urban areas. In Africa, yellow fever transmission is apparently spreading from the west of the continent, and primates could be contributing to this in savannas around rainforests. Our results are useful for identifying new areas that should be prioritised for vaccination, and suggest the need of deep yellow fever surveillance in primates of South America and Africa.

the contribution of the spatial/environmental factor to the distribution of favorability in the disease models used in this paper was in the range 62-86%. the variables they used in this factor include a lot of ones that intersect with weather and climate:
