of course they shouldn't. nasa fights tooth and nail for every bit of deltaV they can use. you think they want you giving some away for free??

Extremely funny that Justin spoke for about 10 minutes in a near 2 hour finale, my god. I enjoyed this season back when they were running around the auction house but man that was a huge mess by the end.

Finished the finale and I really don’t have a clue what the gently caress was going on. I would’ve been happy with just a scrappy fight against the rival ship gang and getting into a drunken bar fight instead of whatever the gently caress happened.

I think when Clint rolled that 1 it kicked the whole thing into a weird territory. Haven't listened to the finale yet but I was very disappointed in Devo for not mentioning Nermal's Pile when he spoke to the past and told them to come to the sea

please don't insult the majesty that is kingdom hearts ethersea's problems can be connected to griffin being unable to keep things small scale + griffin's insatiable desire to split the party + devo being a truly abhorrent character + justin losing interest and checking out some time during the cambria arc + thousands of words of exposition that no one asked for + the entire group forgetting how to tell a joke clint was good as always though.

There's plenty of podcasts and personal games of people playing a heavily house-ruled D&D to shoehorn the system into working for the game they want to play instead of just playing a different game.

I’m probably a poo poo dm but whenever i dmed dnd I would largely just choose when monsters died. I never disclosed hit dice or health pools (because I didn’t actually have one, and this was partly just because I’m adhd as gently caress and rarely prepared to that extent) I tried my best to just keep tension up when I felt it was necessary and reward players power fantasies when appropriate. I never had any complaints but I never disclosed to them that I never actually rolled for monsters (except in some rare circumstances). So I guess it was pretty lovely looking back but I was working with the only system I knew at the time

I thought the finale was fine. Then again I also thought the entire Ethersea campaign has been fine, with a slight-to-moderate decline over time. Wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed listening to it, which is more than I can say for Graduation, which I fully checked out of by ep 6. I don't play enough D&D to care that they aren't using the system properly, and if I cared that much I'd probably just play D&D, not listen to a comedy/action podcast. I did enjoy that they set up the whole "if you go to another plane of existence, you'll corrupt and destroy it just like we did with this one, and that's final," and then kind of just said "meh, gently caress it. what do you know anyway?" It's the type of anti-authority message that I think the world could use. Could have done without the multiverse/parallel timeline, as I feel like it's been fairly overdone lately with the MCU and Everything Everywhere All at Once but whatever.

change my name posted:Can someone summarize the last few eps, I'm not going to listen if they suck I’ll take a stab at it, with the caveat that I first get to plug the latest Friends at the Table campaign that just wrapped up in their main podcast feed: Bluff City is 5 episodes long, is extremely fun and silly and had me genuinely laughing out loud every single episode. So the Hand of Guidance is dead, and Devo thinks it couldn’t be suicide because she called him Devo in her suicide note which she had never called him before. They come away from the murder scene without any real solid leads, so a magical man pops up and tells them hey guys it was probably Benefactor Orlean, you should go get him. So they head out, taking Kodeira from the church with them. Along the way they kill the very last of the blinksharks who once again tell Zoox to stop Amber from destroying the world. Zoox keeps this information to himself. They arrive at Orlean’s hideout, a big coral tower surrounded by bleached coral warships. The bleached coral brinar let the Coriolis through and explain that Orlean made them build the tower to try and open a portal to…somewhere. They break into the tower, Devo tries to run off and be the hero and Orlean summons a big coral dragon. They fight it but Amber runs off for some reason I forgot, the dragon dies and Zoox fails a roll, dying as Orlean mind controls his body to fight Devo. Orlean reveals he wants to tell himself in the past not to go under the sea because he left his family behind when he went to the shoreside. Devo does some poo poo to bring Zoox’s consciousness back and Zoox becomes the coral tower. Orlean is dying because of the effort to do all the magic he’d been doing, tells Devo he didn’t kill Guidance and actually tried to warn her. Devo uses the time portal he was opening to repeat The Call to The Sea that lead everyone to the shoreside, but tacks “and bring your family” onto the end, then heads back down the tower to find Amber. Amber had met up with Kodeira who has been possessed by Koda, one of the old gods. There’s also a portal there which leads to the blinkshark homeworld? Zoox the tower briefly traps Koda in coral and Amber jumps through the portal, despite Koda’s warning that going through will infect that world with magic and ruin it. Koda follows Amber and the portal closes. Zoox builds himself a new taller, buffer body out of the tower and convinces the bleached coral brinar to come back to Founder’s Wake and act as the city’s protectors. They scoop up the portal and everyone on the now out-of-commission Biggest Baby and head home. Tesselation and some other scientists build Zoox a giant coral mech suit but warn it might absorb his consciousness when he gets in, but Zoox is like gimme gimme gimme. He gets in and is fine, and sets up The Reef, a team to explore the ocean and defend Founder’s Wake. Amber and Kodeira, who is no longer being controlled by Koda, wake up on the blinkshark homeworld and they are very tall. Amber has a moment of doubt, wondering if coming here was a bad thing. The blinksharks put on an undersea light show and worship these two as gods. Kodeira feels Koda die, and they joke about how they’ll need to come up with better more godly names for themselves/each other. Devo sets up a school for orphan kids and reads Guidance’s diary, finding a note that reads “Great Aurateurs Seldom Whisper” (Whispers being the term for Homenine spies - Brother Seldom is a Whisper and the one who killed Guidance. This is not spelled out the way I just spelled it out for you so none of the players react to this at all.) Devo then wakes up in another dimension where he’s the Undersea Pope, but I guess he’s in both dimensions at the same time? The magical man who told them Orlean was the murderer pops up and says this is the dimension where Devo did The Call to The Sea, and he never joined Amber and Zoox who died on their first mission together. And Devo’s like, well I knew that and btw my real name is Damien Cern, relative of someone from the Quiet Year episodes who I don’t remember. Meanwhile Benevolence, another one of the old gods tells Brother Seldom good work on killing Guidance, they’ll never find Homenine which still exists, now tell me everything you know about Founder’s Wake. The End, it was really not very good at all, and make mine a large Coke.

Bummer to hear they didn't land the plane. Aether Sea didn't really grab me when I listened to the first 3-6 episodes, but I was also burnt out on long form RP podcasts at the time. Seemed like they had a good energy and were consciously trying to downsize after Travis piledrived the podcast with whatever Graduation was supposed to be. From the posts here, sounds like the bad inclinations from that effort managed to also sink his character in Aethersea? At least most reviews seem to be more along the lines of "this was fine, but could have been better" vs. "this is bad."

Yeah, looking back that's really the point where Griffin seemed to realize he "needed" to up the stakes. It didn't immediately decline but the jobs stopped always being about existing in the world and subtly affecting the state of the city.

It felt like jokes would come back any episode, so I kept listening until the first act of Amnesty. But they never did. The characters even seemed to stop talking to each other, only communicating with the DM and NPCs. I don't know why they think their USP is JRPG-level plotting rather than humour, the thing they are actually best known for. When that bell argument happened in Travis's Western mystery mini-arc, it was like the only genuinely funny part in twenty+ hours of content. rollick fucked around with this message at 19:20 on Jul 30, 2022 |
