You're not trying to convince the troll, you're preaching to any sympathetic people in the audience. Probably helps that as a kid hippies and love n peace were the thing. one of my earliest memories about 6 years old was of following two 'big girls' home from church and they had a radio on playing a song about California and I was wondering what a California was. Wilson and Heath were the first 2 PMs I remember, Vietnam war was ongoing and every night the news would report on what 'parallels' had been taken (I had no idea what that meant at the time - lines of latitude). Cold war was at its height, we were shown those films about what to do in a nuclear attack at school and dad was in the local civil defence. ww2 ended less than 20 years earlier and rationing less than 15 years earlier so these were still quite fresh in peoples' minds. Certainly for my parents who has been kids in ww2 and had lived through the bombardments of Coventry and Birmingham. Even now (for my dad til he died) they would cringe if they hear/heard an airraid siren on TV. I guess politics was much more in your face back then. Maybe it's coming back to that point now with crises akin to the 70s kicking off.

It always makes me wonder because there absolutely are people who think it's "just bantz" but like, what the gently caress kind of life do you live? Granted I don't have any male friends IRL and never have but I cannot imagine the kind of relationship I would need to have where I would just talk like that with them about poo poo jesus christ.

Saw this, but don't know much about them: https://www.fuelbankfoundation.org/ Such a god awful policy to help everyone (regardless of income), when there are genuinely people who will have to choose between energy and food for God knows how long.

Then I saw what it actually meant. I spent a lot of 2010-2015 undergoing political schizophrenia as I realised liberalism was a golden calf, also that God isn't real. Truss will ensure the poor stay nice and toasty for the rest of their lives by burning them. Kieth will briefly agonise about the cost-effectiveness of using petrol before demanding the burnings be sped up.

Better take all the brakes off of everything so that we can burn lignite until the skies ignite and privatize air and never allow government (bad, socialist) to do anything. When you try to warn them they're building an engine of queerphobia the likes of which god themself has never seen, and it's not going away once the pricks stoking it have gotten what they need from it, they scoff and accuse you of calling them fascist and block you. It's far easier for them to accept that other people are malicious than it is to accept that they might be getting tricked into supporting something very, very bad. The most heartbreaking thing is the lesbian & gay people getting conned into supporting it (they've already very much pivoted to biphobia), because they are absolutely next on the chopping block once they're done with the T, the Q and the IA, and they refuse to listen. I'm still numb over the details of that Rishi speech. I guess the masks are fully off now, and it's going to be a race to see who can outfash the other. One side of me really hopes Rishi has hosed his chances and overdone it, but I have a sickening feeling that he's just going to fuel a desire by a whipped up public to see how fash they can both take things, so they'll just keep attempting to outdo each other. loving scary times

Sunak and Truss are trying to win votes from the type of people who actually pay money to be members of the Tory party. From that perspective it's a remarkably restrained speech. If Sunak were to win, unlikely as that is, this repugnant diatribe will quickly be memory holed.

I had discontent with everything and generally stayed disengaged with party politics because it all seemed so poo poo and hopeless. If anything I'd have said I'd supported the Lib Dems above anybody else until 2010 when it became immediately apparent that they were Piss Tories. Again this was through disengagement and ignorance rather than really loving liberalism or Nick Clegg. I don't think I ever actually voted for them though through combination of living in the speaker's seat and realising that FPTP was hosed and they had no chance of winning or making any difference to anything. I only truly became aware of socialist ideas after meeting my wife who encouraged me to learn more about politics (though not specifically socialism - I think I've helped her onboard that train, possibly more than the other way around), then Corbyn showed up, and I discovered this thread which helped me complete my journey.

Man, Corbyn is really so milquetoast and mild it makes me sad that he's become a totem pole of leftism in this country. He's just a good guy who wanted to help people who needed the help and for that he got destroyed by the insane vampires who run the place.
