Do you love squishy toys but wish they were edible (in a way that doesn’t involve an ER visit)? https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRUYW3aC/?k=1

Just spent like a week visiting my sister and her bf, so I obviously took some photos of their cats. Here's some beans: Here's a demonstration of cat ergonomics: And a good display of just how loving big Maine Coons are (the other cat is very much average in size and there's no perspective chicanery going on here):

Look at this guy's posture and body shape. When you draw a cat like this it looks like a cartoonish exaggeration but nope.

Big kitty. I've always wanted a real Maine cat with the big floof but you can't really find them around here.

Have you considered a senior cat, or are you somewhere where the breed is just not common? They might be more readily available than younger cats. I have a 15 pound Maine coon that I got four years ago, when she was 10. She is a hilarious old broad named Katahdin. It’s like living with a big fuzzy Bea Arthur.

The thing about floof, for good or for ill is that it's very high maintenance. You can spend a lot of time just getting tangles out of the hair to keep it from getting dreads. It's pretty calming for you and the cat (hopefully) but time consuming. Usually they appreciate the attention though. My nephew named our last one Harry (or possibly Hairy, he didn't specify the spelling.)

I think that kind of seal pup only nurses for one day, after that it's all the fish they can catch.

Kwyndig posted:Is that raccoon hunting for ticks like an opossum? Looks like a raccoon letting its friend know ours very deer to them. Also, I just saw a fox trotting by and said,”hi fox!” And it stopped, say, calmly regarded me for moment, then got up and continued on its quest. No pictures. Sorry. I probably should post the only halfway decent picture I got of the baby skunk in my yard last night. But it’s not on this phone. It and its mom are almost invisible and I only knew they were there because the cat walked over to sit in front of me and stare intently at the skunks. I through a couple of strawberries around the yard while they foraged somewhere there wasn’t a creepy human staring at them, so when they came back by, baby skunk apparently refused to stay out of site because the strawberries were too damned tantalizing. Now I want to know which animal perceives itself as the fastest. Cheetahs obviously are smug as poo poo but they have all that mammal mass to jerk around, there could be a little bug tearing rear end around a fat dumb spider on its scale
|

Hmmm... Speed per mass, max G loading, instantaneous acceleration, that sort of thing? Perceptions of time would bake in a level of assumptions naturally, but with some unorthodox artification it'd be possible to put a number on that too, sure. This is a stably scientific project on quantifiable analysis with a fully acceptable level of rigor.

They shed it after a few weeks though. You might be thinking of the hooded seal, which has the shortest weaning time of all mammals at four days. The pups are also adorable the adults, slightly less so https://i.imgur.com/tUcewH0.mp4

Oh, absolutely. A cheetah at full tilt can run 16 body lengths per second, meanwhile the predatory Tiger Beetle can clear 170 body lengths per second. They actually run so fast that light can't enter their eyes normally and the beetle becomes blind, they have to periodically stop to turn and re-aim themselves at the guy they're trying to eat.
