It's child porn that was sent to Infowars by third parties and they weren't aware because it all went into the generic email trash folder. Once someone found it it was immediately handled properly (turning it over to the FBI). This also happened several years ago and is making the rounds again because Jones is the top of the current news cycle again

They haven't made any of the changes Sinema requested to the reconciliation bill yet and they are putting it up for the first procedural vote in a rare Saturday session. Reconciliation requires unlimited amendments, so Sinema can still add her stuff in via amendment. It is also going to be a huge shitshow with messaging amendments. When they passed the stimulus bill, they had to vote on 283 amendments. Sinema still says she won't say anything about the bill publicly until the parliamentarian finishes. https://twitter.com/burgessev/status/1555272373724557315

Just last year (as the article states) she was in favor of a corporate minimum tax.

They are apparently going in to an even rarer Sunday session for votes in the Senate and people are already revolting. https://twitter.com/ReporterCioffi/status/1555275207757238272 quote:“It makes me a cranky senator,” said Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski, summing up the general mood this week as the chamber hurtles toward a tantalizing August recess. quote:It’s enough to make everyone a little grumpy, though staffers and lawmakers generally said the blow of weekend work can be softened if Congress is working together to get substantive lawmaking done. quote:For Sen. Kevin Cramer, it all comes down to scheduled rest. From a theological standpoint, “I think God had a really good idea of resting on the seventh day,” said the North Dakota Republican. Warnock only complains a little and at least has some perspective. quote:For some members of the Senate, it can cut into their faith work. Take Sen. Raphael Warnock, a pastor who returns home many Sundays to preach at the storied Ebenezer Baptist Church. But the Georgia Democrat said he tries to keep things in perspective. Ben Ray Lujan seems to be the only one who thinks it is a fun chance for socializing. quote:No one likes working weekends, but Sen. Ben Ray Luján said if members were to stick around for longer periods at the Capitol and then take longer breaks back in their states, like they used to long ago, they may be able to get more done. Historical complaints about weekend work from Bob Dole. quote:“We ought to end this,” the Kansas Republican said on Dec. 31, 1995. “I mean, it's gotten to the point where it’s a little ridiculous, as far as this senator is concerned.”

The Senate could pass the same amount of legislation in about 1/5th the time if the voting procedure were less archaic.

The limit/amount will depend on the tort laws and whether they have limits on punitive damages in the jurisdiction the trial takes place in. Afterwards, during the inevitable appeal and bankruptcy proceedings, it will be a judge and the statutory limits/minimums on damages who decide what he ultimately actually pays.

So they easily could be zero. For context, $4 million is pretty high for emotional damages, it just isn't much up against Alex Jones's wealth. As shown by the limits on punitive damages, he picked a good state to lie about dead kids in.

In the long run, this trial is (indirectly) still going to be absolutely ruinous for Jones due to his legal team's epic fuckup. He would have been better off settling and avoiding discovery.

haveblue posted:I take it that means they stripped the carried interest part out of the bill? I guess the climate stuff is still good Yep. They removed that, but did add in a new excise tax on stock buybacks. Publicly traded corporations got a slight shaft in exchange for protecting hedge funds, some doctors and lawyers, and people who entirely own their large private businesses. She says they will work on a "carried interest reform" compromise bill to be voted on separately, but it will probably never happen. The carried interest loophole is not a huge amount of money, but it was an accident that only benefits a tiny amount of (very rich) people and is indefensible from a public policy standpoint. It's basically the legislative equivalent of one guy stealing all your change and spitting in your face after every trip to the grocery store.
