They haven't made any of the changes Sinema requested to the reconciliation bill yet and they are putting it up for the first procedural vote in a rare Saturday session. Reconciliation requires unlimited amendments, so Sinema can still add her stuff in via amendment. It is also going to be a huge shitshow with messaging amendments. When they passed the stimulus bill, they had to vote on 283 amendments. The limit/amount will depend on the tort laws and whether they have limits on punitive damages in the jurisdiction the trial takes place in. Afterwards, during the inevitable appeal and bankruptcy proceedings, it will be a judge and the statutory limits/minimums on damages who decide what he ultimately actually pays.

So they easily could be zero. For context, $4 million is pretty high for emotional damages, it just isn't much up against Alex Jones's wealth. As shown by the limits on punitive damages, he picked a good state to lie about dead kids in.

In the long run, this trial is (indirectly) still going to be absolutely ruinous for Jones due to his legal team's epic fuckup. He would have been better off settling and avoiding discovery.

They removed that, but did add in a new excise tax on stock buybacks. Publicly traded corporations got a slight shaft in exchange for protecting hedge funds, some doctors and lawyers, and people who entirely own their large private businesses. She says they will work on a "carried interest reform" compromise bill to be voted on separately, but it will probably never happen. The carried interest loophole is not a huge amount of money, but it was an accident that only benefits a tiny amount of (very rich) people and is indefensible from a public policy standpoint. It's basically the legislative equivalent of one guy stealing all your change and spitting in your face after every trip to the grocery store.
