I would imagine one would want to discourage randos from seeking out unexploded ordnance

I assume that they know they are there, but no one wants to figure out how to deal with them. There's probably been a years/decades long battle over whose responsibility it is to dredge them out of that river and then dispose of them. Something like the EOD people not wanting to dive into the gross river to get them, and the people whose job it is to deal with the river not wanting to handle explosives. So if a couple morons dig up 86 of them, the bomb people are happy to go get them, because they aren't in the water. But a bunch of morons pulling up old explosives is a liability problem. So they just accept that they are there and fine anyone who pulls them out.

Just let those yahoos sign a waiver and fish the rest out to dispose of, they'll have a good time and get stuff done.

I've done that, it happens when the city workers forget (or "forget") to put the storm drains back in the right orientation. Doesn't happen so much now that wider tires are trendy

Ambassadorofsodomy posted:Hitting it diagonally would probably be fine too Tram tracks are extremely devious. They're fine if you go across perpendicularly, but even a slight deviation to diagonal and you risk slipping in. Duckboards like this are another fun obstacle found at many marshy trails here. Sometimes they're built so tightly that there's no problem riding across, but sometimes you start riding across one and notice that a middle section is too rotten to ride through but now you are also on a narrow and slippery duckboard so it's hard to stop and get off without falling into the swamp...
