This does not bode well. If you look at some of the graphs you can see where other countries fall as well, speaking of which, where does Sweden's anti Chinese sentiment come from? Lol

i mean not only are Americans the most heavily propagandized people on earth it’s also the case Americans are jealous that China didn’t let more than a million of their citizens die of Covid and are probably making GBS threads their pants that China can pull off public works projects better than they can.

it’s also a deep seated understanding that america is truly on its way out as the #1 country and Americans are too dumb to realize the cause of this is their corporate billionaire class so instead they’ll blame China.

also racism, that an Asian people are about to put-compete the whites at their own game.

People were discussing it on the last page so I thought I'd share my completely anecdotal experience on younger Asian American, Chinese specifically, views on China from my two friends that are brothers and a few years apart.

The older one is about 26 and has spent a lot of time connecting with his Chinese heritage, learning the language, visiting the mainland and Taiwan, and befriending Chinese international students. He has a very realistic view on China's rise and doesn't see them as the "bad guys" like America makes them out to be. We made fun of some guy at a Halloween party who's costume was a HK 19 protester too which was cool.

The younger brother on the other hand is about 24 and has not spent nearly as much effort trying to connect, he's your typical internet poisoned guy and buys into all the anti China memes like Winnie the Pooh, CCP spyware (when talking about valorant lol), censorship, etc. Really the whole Reddit nine yards.

All this to say I don't think age is the primary factor but how much people try to distance or connect themselves to their Chinese identity. Sure probably very obvious but thought it'd be interesting to share.

China should take the initiative to attack, and it will be beaten if it is passive. China, together with Russia and related countries, jointly supports Mexico in reclaiming Texas, which was forcibly occupied by the United States, and provides weapons support. At the same time, it supports Texas to forcefully separate from the United States. It is fatal. The Texas industry is the support of the United States, and the voice for independence is also very high. China can follow the example of the United States to Taiwan, and use deception to counter it. Let’s see what the United States has to say! Let the United States taste the bitter fruits of the turmoil around us!

Karen Davila, one of our big-name news anchors here in the Philippines, interviewed Blinken during his visit.

Nothing new really shared, mostly non-committal platitudes. What I am picking up on is that they're certainly trying to spin up a narrative where it's China at fault for interrupting commerce and navigation across the Strait of Taiwan with their military exercises, and that it's China that's being irresponsible by declaring an end to climate change cooperation.

Of course, these are reactions to Pelosi's visit to the Philippines, but I can already anticipate that if one were to try and point out that the US shouldn't have allowed Pelosi to visit if they didn't want China to react in this way, the rebuttal is assuredly going to be "China has no right to dictate where Americans can go", or that China's reaction is an overreaction.

I listen to the last few episodes of the fat military nerds podcast.

What I gather from their talks as well as a couple think tanks who work inside CPC system: most people in the know as well as PLA expected the interception happened. They certainly planned it and prepared for multiple flight plans. For whatever reason the PLA interception didn't happened. People were very angry on the day Pelosi landed. Fat nerd and co. recorded a podcast but couldn't release it because there were too much emotion.

Anyway on the latest episode they speculated on the reason based on the timing on the announcement of the 8-point cancellation of military/drug/green energy dialogue as well as the Pelosi family sanction. They didn't say it out loud but I think they speculated Beijing was planning for longer term change of facts on the ground. The fallout of this crisis is not going to be clear until one year out, so we will see.

Also interesting thing they mention, third party reactions can be categorized into 5 tiers. Strongest: US/AU/JP jointed statement after the missile test; Second, G7 foreign minister jointed statements; Third, Germany also put out separated statement which had kind of weaker tune than the G7 statement; weakest, Korea; and then rest of the world which can be described as no taking a side or slightly shake head at Pelosi. They said this can be gauged as world reaction if and when all chips has to put on the table.

This is why PLA announced a new exercise targeted at Japan direction in Yellow Sea, showing Japan how the A2AD tactics will carry out. Putting pressure on the upcoming Japanese cabinet reshuffle. Abe's sick brother is also on his last leg so somebody else has to take over defense minister.

"anti-access/area denial"

it's like military jargon for a strategy of "denying" space to the enemy or otherwise frustrate them from moving through or occupying an area. to illustrate it in this context, draw a big box over an area of the ocean, and imagine ships in that box could be targeted by missiles

more specifically, the "anti-access" part would be the missile part -- denying "access" to an area by physically destroying the ship. "area denial" is the stuff that makes the job of that ship more difficult once it's there, like jamming its communications or its radar. a minefield is a classic example of area denial. a minefield isn't going to stop a battalion from moving through an area, but it'll make it more costly or slow it down.

and there are layers of it like an onion. different weapons for different layers because of range, but integrated together so different weapons / sensors / jammers complement each other

i think it's also a pretty "dialectical" way of conceptualizing warfare and building strategies. usually, we think in terms of offense/defense. one side goes on the offensive, the other side defends. but you could also think of it as an interaction where you're trying to wage war in such a way that you make your enemy work harder to defeat you, thereby increasing entropy in their whole military system until it collapses.

the point isn't necessarily to destroy the enemy physically, although destroying the enemy's ships, planes and troops is part of it. but that's not, like, *the point* as much as increasing the enemy's entropy to such a degree that systems and infrastructure that connect it all together breaks down that it can't function, so doesn't see the point in continuing to fight.

well yeah pretty much.

but that's the best way i can explain the underlying theory (i THINK) in a few words. like you're increasing "friction" the closer they get to you which will make them work harder and intensify the internal contradictions in their system.

come to think of it the F-35 is a good example. because if you can force a carrier to operate from farther away through A2/AD, then the F-35 can't fly as far either, because it has fuel limits. the F-35 can compensate for the reduced range by adding an underwing fuel tank for a boost, but then this "stealth" plane is now more visible on radar, or can't carry as many bombs and missiles. the more tradeoffs your enemy is forced to make like that, the better for you
