I don't know why they still sell those. It should actually be an in use cover. Then it's weather proof with something plugged in too.

Because they tend to be cheaper and more durable for outlets that will rarely ever be used?

Yeah, to emphasize this is under the deck, above the bottom floor. It will rarely, if ever, used.

Oh, I thought you were the poster who had a jacuzzi plugged into it.

Mine has a spa always plugged in. It’s under the eaves but that doesn’t protect it from driving rain. The RCD doesn’t have quite so good moisture ingress protection and tripped. That took half an hour with a hair drier on the housing attempting to coax it back to life.

I hear that’s quite popular in Europe at the moment. What with the Rhine dropping to a level too low to sustain shipping, and France having to decrease output from nuclear power stations as there isn’t sufficient water flow to cool them.

Amerex, badger, buckeye, ansul. Amerex also does a lot of “store brand” private labels but are easily identifiable as such.

Kidde and first alert are just made with the cheapest garbage parts.

Also if you own an extinguisher and you actually care about it maybe saving your life. On top of buying a decent brand you should have it professionally serviced every six years. Getting it emptied out, refilled, and replacing the stem and o-rings might cost you a few bucks, but can make a legit extinguisher last decades.

Edit: yes this means you might need to pay $50-$100 for one. Don’t cheap out on life safety equipment.

It's not that bad. Sure some of the snakes and spiders are scary, but easy to avoid. IMO bears seem way scarier to me.

Cassowaries and crocodiles are terrifying sure but they live in a part of the country that not a lot of people live in, so they're mostly academic.
