I'm thinking that printing everything on separate cards (gear, strategic ops etc) might help a lot.

Funny thing - my first game against warp coven went better than second game against novitate. Against coven I was playing it super safe and lost on points but against sisters it was boot - > my face

Speaking of Kill Team, the FAQs updated and I have no idea what changed.

I haven't actually played Kill Team yet, I'm still assembling by first team (while waiting for my second to ship because wargamer) but I've been using Battlescribe filtered though dataslate.rocks and I really like the way it lays out the information and rules. It seems like it will be very convenient at the table.

It's a very good game but set aside at least three hours for your first session.

Watching Guerrilla Miniatures review of the new Warcry core book, and he says GW really stepped up the Narrative aspect of the game. It's more in depth and has an after game wound table similar to Mordheim or NM. Makes me very happy to hear that.

Novitiate played by someone who is good with them is absolutely terrifying.

A box of Guardians and a box of Voidscarred Corsairs would probably work decently well as a kit bash to get enough bodies to build out all the options, and you could lean into the Guardian side of the aesthetic while running them as Corsairs?

To be fair, I'd probably do at least as well with a 6-dude team of tacticals with a plasma gun as a "real team" whose rules I can't actually remember. :v:

A Deathwatch team with 100% storm bolters would be strictly better, but I can't be bothered to source those storm bolters.

Edit: Oh right Sternguard Vets come with two. Hm.

Are tactical first born really that bad in Kill Team? You get six models, they have a decent selection of heavy fire power. You'd get a close combat Sargent, a gunner, and a heavy gunner, and three regular Marines to back them up. I'd personally rather play them than six of the same Primaris.

Siivola
Dec 23, 2012

Tacticals aren't awful by any metric, but it feels weird to play them when you could play Deathwatch and get the same dudes with better weapons. Their only downside is that you can't fill out your roster with models that aren't Deathwatch Veterans.

Edit: I think what I'll do is, I'll get a box of Tacticals to start out with, and if I want more firepower I'll buy the Sternguard box and insist they "count as" Deathwatch.

I am still trying to figure out why KT, a game with the fluff of "a bunch of specialist infiltrators and counter-infiltrators fight over strategic spots" has a number of factions not get their dedicated infiltration/counter-infiltration units. Looking at Tyranids and the lack of a Lictor, Ravenor or Gargoyle selection is just :wtf:

Do they have rules for really good active camo that would let a Lictor Lict it up properly?

Siivola
Dec 23, 2012

They could probably recycle the Stealth Suit rule for it, but I'm not sure what licting it up would look like in a KT context. Would you have one uber-Lictor, or would you have to take a bunch of Genestealers to get a reasonable activation count?

I would also still appreciate some danger.

SWA had rules for boss monster one-figure gangs like the lictor, harlequin solitaire, and Sly Marbo.

You could probably do something similar in 2022, and maybe roll in an armiger.

Regarding the one Uber Lictor, I'm personally holding out hope for a KT variant where one side plays something like a Leman Russ tank, and it's a sort of boss battle with the tank having crunchy rules about multiple actions, sub systems, and degrading performance. It probably can't ever be balanced for matches play but it'd be a fun side show. Another take might be something like a single walker.

A happy little mouse!

A lictor seems like something that’d be good for a narrative game, just make up some completely buck wild rules so you can reenact Predator on an unsuspecting kill team.

You could maybe do it if each crewman acted on their own activation, and if it were possible to attack separate components like the treads or sponsons.

It'd be its own minigame, but so many of these new teams are like that.

There's a lot of possibility in general for kill team to be a more narrative, more RPG style game with a referee. I actually wrote out a very basic "kill team as XCOM" game rules, where 1-4 players share an Imperium fractioned based kill team and they go through 5 linked missions based around escaping a doomed hive city and are opposed by one "refree_ player who represents the enemy force that is overrunning the Hive city.

In the actual missions the "players" control fire teams that collectively comprise an oversized kill team, and they face XCOM/space hulk style "mobs" of enemies which begin as tokens and which resolve into varied packs of enemies.

The basic idea would be you set up an intentionally too-easy starter mission where the nascent Imperium team captures a landing field, then three missions of rough force parity where they attempt to gather a void ship, some citizens, and an anti air battery, and the a final "last stand" mission where they defend those three assets against increasingly fierce attacks from the invaders. If the players do well in the three middle missions they have more tools available in the last stand, but also have a broader foot print to defend.

I'm wondering if a Lictor-based Tyranid KT doesn't come out as part of the next series of releases focusing on space hulk terrain. Tyranids in the form of genestealers have been part of the space hulk theme for a while, and if they're coming out with a tyranid KT then I figure it has to have a lictor in it.

After set up before turn one, you can remove one mini from the opposing side because they got Licted on the way in. It doesn't ever appear on the table.

Way back in the day, someone sent in rules to the GW fan magazine for a narrative campaign that was about a rogue space marine scout who had gathered a bunch of other rogues along with an Ogryn and the campaign centered around the team's goals against the backdrop of political unrest. It was really inventive and makes me think of where something like KT could go.

Almost an entire year after my last post itt and only two seasons later, I'm here to shill the Mapgoons Discord Blood Bowl 2 league once again.

If anyone's interested in a chill goon Blood Bowl 2 league to play in, our 9th season is now taking signups! After an absurd 21-game regular season in S8 (we did round robin with 22 signups), this one's going to be much less of a commitment.

Format will be Swiss with ~15 signups already (so expect somewhere between 8 and 11 games pre-playoffs); 1200 TV maximum custom (but not mixed!) teams with some skill number limitations.

We're taking signups in the Mapgoons Discord here (check the top pin in the #bloodbowlers channel under the 'Other Organized Games' category). Feel free to join regardless of experience level! The league tends to run the gamut from complete newbies to players with a lot of games under their belts, and the latter are happy to dispense advice and tips.

If anyone's got any further questions feel free to ask here or in PMs.

Really excited to be starting in a 14 player necromunda league with my Goliath.
Played a warmup 4v 4 game yesterday and best part for me was when my champion ran in to a room full of delaque and used the gangcard to flex his muscles. 2 of the puny delaque guys failed their courage and ran in view of such an awesome display.
Happy it was a just a warm-up because 2 guys later died.

We had 3 multi-player tables going yesterday.

I don't know how much it originally changed from the TANKS game that was its precursor (IIRC, Battlefront or GF9 or whoever made it was originally supposed to make it as a licensed WoT game, but it fell through or something so they just released TANKS as its own thing until they actually got the WoT license), but that was a lot of fun. I have a copy of What a Tanker! from Too Fat Lardies, and although I haven't played it yet, from what I gather it's much the same thing, a tank skirmish game with only a tank or two per side.
