Lol today I was accosted on facebook by a cryptobro who declared that I needed to "educate myself" about crypto, because I wrote that it is a scam. You see, in my foolishness I missed the important point that the ledger is PUBLIC. How stupid of me to believe that there could ever be scams in crypto, as everyone would be able to see it on the ledger! How could I have missed such a simple and elegant solution to stop all illicit use

You're absolutely describing a magician. A lot of stuff that ends up as magic started as cheats for card games. Hell, one of the seminal works of slight-of-hand, Erdinase's The Expert at the Card Table, really started as a book on how to cheat and/or spot cheaters (though the magic aspect takes over quickly).
