That would be just one of what I seem to remember were several incidents of German passenger cars getting run over in II Corps. I don’t know how Korea and Okinawa put up with it for so long.

Also, the LCS seems to be coming back, rather than dump the Freedom class because it was a useless money sink, the Navy reversed direction and are going to fix all the combining gears that reduced the ship’s speed to 10 knots. (Also it has the weaponry of a Chinese coast guard ship). They are still trying to work out the crippling rusting issues with the Independence Class.

an acquaintance in the us army ran over a turkish child with a jeep near incirlik base in the 70s. the American taxpayer shelled out a few tens of thousands of dollars to the family and the driver was sad about it the rest of his life. this stuff probably happens constantly.

Also it isn’t talked about but the type 96/99 is based on the t-72, in pictures of the type 96 prototype you can see they are just welding a new turret on a t-72. It is just funny people talk about how obsolete the t-72 is and it shows up everywhere. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 09:15 on Aug 19, 2022 |

When I was a kid we would hike up on the hills around the local military base and watch tanks do live fire drills. We got muzzle swept a couple times, it was pretty exciting. This was way back when they just had lovely barbed wire fences around the base, I would not recommend it post 9/11.

there is a general tendency of all watch standing bridge crew... navy (all navies) merchant shipping (all flags) to be reliant on ECDIS (or proprietary navy equivalent) over other more traditional navigation means including ARPA and especially over visual sighting with a sextant. I guarantee that this is a concern of all the P&I clubs on the merchant side and all Navies (atleast the ones smart enough to do failure and real near miss tracking) because I have been told so by them.

civvie sea crews are far less hubristical when it comes to collision avoidance and are waaaaaaaaaaay more experienced operating in crowded sea lanes regardless of navigational aids
