I guess they hit on that later, or the card game wasn't ready yet, or something, but early on the main guy plays different games to the death. yugioh was actually not about cardgames at all for like the first couple full volumes, it was just yugi and his split personality running around doing JoJo poo poo with a bunch of completely insane games, like stacking money on your hand and seeing who could stab through the most bills with a knife without drawing blood. the card game stuff was from a specific arc of the manga that got insanely loving popular, mainly because that’s the arc that introduced kaiba, and it got such a massively positive response konami offered to make a licensed duel monsters game and the mangaka just leaned the gently caress in

i wouldn't say they're dated at all since they're mostly working class issue shows with advice to pick up smoking so you get more breaks at work, and always volunteer to sweep the parking lot because it's better than dealing with customers. brett's been pretty great until about covid times i guess and he's weird now

street fight in its heydey is similar to citations needed but for a different audience; it helped teen weirdos use the self-checkout lane. maybe instead of citations needed's lib to socialist pipeline i think street fight could best be described as a lumpen to socialist pipeline. i think in aggregate that's more useful and the podcast has done good work

I for the longest time liked to listen to the SF basement shows, and I just drop shows for a bit. They’re occasionally groan worthy with some of the stuff they’d say but seemed like normal people which was the main appeal for me. Also the selling Kratom thing seemed stupid, but was kind of a funny hustle to me. I would listen to the call in shows a few times here and there, but they didn’t really feel like they were for me. The new episode is just so weird because it doesnt even seem like Brett should be back from the hospital much less on a podcast. That said the place he got sent sounded worse so I’m glad he’s out.
